PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Sam Vatubua (ranked 25091 p4p, 24888 weight class) and Olof Hell (ranked 698 p4p, 732 weight class). Vatubua kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is O Fortuna. Sam Vatubua has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Sam Vatubua!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Olof Hell!
The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Gregory Folan and William Peck.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
No luck for Hell with that takedown attempt.
Hell shoots in looking for a takedown. Vatubua tries to sprawl out of it but Hell keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Vatubua manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Hell fails with the takedown.
Sam Vatubua has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Olof Hell.

Vatubua gets a clinch.
Hell jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Vatubua walks away with a smile on his face. Hell gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Hell shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Vatubua napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Vatubua is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Hell is controlling him well.
You can see the frustration on Vatubua's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Vatubua is trying to escape and get back to his feet.

Hell thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Vatubua tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Hell wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Hell is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Vatubua is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Hell tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Hell has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Vatubua is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Hell is controlling him well.

Olof Hell seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Vatubua is looking to land a big knee to finish this one. He's got control of the head and as Hell tries to break Vatubua's hands from around his neck, Vatubua unloads with that fight ending knee, right up the middle! Oh man, that was nasty! Hell will need to get back to the training room and learn how to defend against the thai clinch! Oooh, his nose is a mess. Hopefully it's not broken.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:30 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Knee). Sam Vatubua!
Sam Vatubua decided to thank the fans in attendance for making a great atmosphere. It seemed to go down pretty well.
In defeat, Olof Hell stepped up to the mic, saying 'I will come back stronger... see you soon'.
