PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Blaine Lawton (ranked 2973 p4p, 24370 weight class) and Ricardo Walker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ricardo Walker told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Blaine Lawton!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Ricardo Walker!
The judges for this bout are Damien Edna, Darius Henderson and Topper Green.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Walker stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Lawton.
Lawton moves forwards but Walker connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Lawton keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Walker.
Lawton misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Lawton lands a big head kick that sends Walker tumbling to the mat! Lawton takes a step backwards and waves Walker back to his feet - he wants the finish!

It looks like Ricardo Walker has been cut.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Lawton gets caught napping as Walker dives in and scores a takedown. Lawton manages to retain guard.
Lawton wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Walker manages to pass to side control.

We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Walker lands with a punch from half guard.
Walker working the head and body with strikes.
Walker lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Walker trying to control the pace.
Walker works his way into full mount!
Walker raining down shots from the mount!

Lawton tries to reverse the position but Walker maintains control.
Walker working the ground and pound effectively.
Walker tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Walker lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
Walker landing strikes from the mount.
You get the feeling that Lawton really doesn't like being in this position too much.
Walker pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Walker controlling the position easily from mount.
Walker has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Lawton is desperately trying to improve his position but Walker has a good base and remains in mount.

Walker content just to control the position here.
Lawton knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Walker on the ground.
Walker is in the full mount, landing strikes.

Lawton is trying to stand.
Walker controlling his opponent.
Walker blocks Lawton's feeble attempts to strike from the bottom.
Lawton wants to control but Walker is having none of it.
Walker fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Lawton is flailing around like a fish out of water, trying to land strikes.
Walker postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Lawton looks a forlorn figure.
Walker landing strikes from the mount and Lawton is in trouble!

Lawton in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.
Walker breaks from Lawton's wrist control and lands an elbow.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Lawton tries to improve his position but Walker has taken his back! Walker has a choke - it's sunk in pretty tight... Will Lawton tap? No... maybe... yes! He's tapped! Walker pushes Lawton away and gets up to celebrate with his corner!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:19 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Ricardo Walker!
