The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Makkonen defending well as Kennedy loads up on a big left hand.
Makkonen bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Kennedy's head.
Kennedy comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.

Kennedy shoots in for a takedown and gets it.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Kennedy thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Makkonen's head.

Kennedy slips a nice elbow through Makkonen's hands, connecting with Makkonen's forehead.
Kennedy wants to lay and pray for a moment but Makkonen keeps working.
Kennedy takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.

Makkonen is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Kennedy scores with a couple of nice shots.

Makkonen really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Kennedy. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Kennedy loads up on a couple of big shots to the head that have Makkonen scrambling to escape. He can't get free though and several more unanswered shots from Kennedy land to the head. The referee has no choice but to stop the fight. Kennedy stands and salutes the crowd.
