Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Caelan Aengus (ranked 3278 p4p, 1557 weight class) and Brian McFoy (ranked 384 p4p, 208 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Caelan Aengus!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Brian McFoy!
The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Trevor Gratis and Dillan Fox.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McFoy changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Aengus tries to avoid it but McFoy manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Aengus to the ground. Aengus escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Aengus throws a right and a left that McFoy avoids nicely.
McFoy takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.

McFoy clinches.
McFoy is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Aengus gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Aengus is pressed up against the cage. McFoy has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Aengus down to the mat. Aengus avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Caelan Aengus has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Brian McFoy.
Aengus stalks McFoy and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into McFoy's face. McFoy staggers backwards, shaken.

Aengus stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.

Aengus was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.
McFoy throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Aengus's waist but Aengus gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing McFoy off to one side.

I was talking to Aengus's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.

Aengus seems to have come into the fight with the intention of avoiding any damage in the clinch, rather than actually showing any aggression.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Aengus lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
