PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Dante Amaranth (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mark Evans (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Dante Amaranth!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Mark Evans!
The judges for this bout are Damien Edna, Steve Erwin and Hugh Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Evans changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Amaranth looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Evans trying to control the position but Amaranth is working away.
Evans prevents Amaranth from escaping the position.
Amaranth is trying to get back to half guard.

Evans tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Evans stands up.
Amaranth motions for Evans to come forward. Amaranth throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.

Evans decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Evans working over Amaranth with some ground and pound. Amaranth looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Evans slips a nice elbow through Amaranth's hands, connecting with Amaranth's forehead.
Amaranth is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Evans scores with a couple of nice shots.
Amaranth manages to get to full guard.
Evans must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Evans throws a big right hand that misses.
Amaranth looking to control.
Amaranth will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Evans's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Evans drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Amaranth manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Evans has Amaranth in his guard.
Evans looks gassed!

Amaranth thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Amaranth preventing the sweep.
Evans is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Evans looking for a guillotine here but Amaranth defends easily.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Evans can do anything to dispel that myth.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Amaranth is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Evans throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Amaranth escapes and throws Evans's legs to the side, diving into side control!

Amaranth working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Evans is trying to improve his position.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Evans is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
The ground and pound from Amaranth seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
Amaranth wants to stand but Evans has his arm trapped.
Evans manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.

Amaranth is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Evans defends it well.
Amaranth misses with a head shot. Evans uses the momentum to regain guard.

Amaranth drops back looking for a leg! Evans is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Evans manages to kick Amaranth off! Amaranth jumps back into Evans's guard.

Evans escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Amaranth gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Evans working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Amaranth doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Amaranth manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Amaranth drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Amaranth jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Evans wants to sweep but no luck.
Evans is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Amaranth slips nicely into half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mark Evans dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Evans shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Amaranth's guard.
Amaranth has a closed guard, preventing Evans from standing up.
Evans postures up and lands a big shot to Amaranth's brow.

Amaranth has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Evans can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Evans is working Amaranth over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Evans connects with a couple of short punches.

Amaranth is looking for a triangle but Evans pushes his legs off easily.
Amaranth is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Evans looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Evans works over Amaranth with some ground and pound from guard.
Evans thows a big elbow that misses.
Evans lands a couple of elbows.

Evans is sitting in close to Amaranth's body. Amaranth has gone for a guillotine from the bottom. Oh damn, that looks pretty tight! Evans is panicking - it looks like this one could be all over! Yes, Evans is tapping! That was a very nice submission by Amaranth.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:47 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Dante Amaranth!
