PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Julian McGavin (ranked 3922 p4p, 6181 weight class) and Lio Rush (ranked 226 p4p, 313 weight class). McGavin comes into the arena with Jersey Shore intro song blaring out of the sound system. The crowd seem to be enjoying Rush's choice of entrance music: The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. Julian McGavin has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Michael Johnstone, Santiago Holmes and Winston Alpacca.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

McGavin shoots in and bounces Rush off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Rush is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Rush keeps trying to improve his position.
McGavin controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Rush tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Rush can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as McGavin controls the pace.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
McGavin's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Rush should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

Rush dives in for a single leg takedown but McGavin sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

Rush has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. McGavin is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

McGavin uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Rush.
Rush shoots for a double leg takedown but McGavin sprawls well. He's pushed Rush's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
It looked like McGavin wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.

Rush working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. McGavin doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. McGavin manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
McGavin lands strikes from half guard.

Rush tries to roll over but McGavin keeps him under control.

Lio Rush has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Julian McGavin is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

McGavin is looking for a kimura but Rush is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for McGavin to get the leverage.
