PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Tobias Berge (ranked 3184 p4p, 6291 weight class) and Lech Nowak (ranked 378 p4p, 620 weight class). Berge comes to the cage accompanied by Ice Cube - Smoke Some Weed. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Tobias Berge!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Lech Nowak!
The judges for this bout are Bart Greer, Sandra Marshall and Santiago Holmes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nowak lands a lovely overhand right.

Berge drives through and clinches with Nowak against the cage.

Berge pulls guard successfully.

Berge is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Nowak defends well.

Berge working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Nowak has passed into half guard!

Berge looking for submissions off his back.

Berge actively working from the bottom here.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Berge is staying active underneath Nowak, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Berge is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Berge trying to control but Nowak postures up.
Nowak throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Nowak wants to control but Berge is keeping him busy.

Nowak seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Berge does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Berge is looking to control Nowak's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Berge avoid being mounted?

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Berge has his hands clasped together around Nowak's back. He's all about the action.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Nowak prevents Berge from improving his position.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Berge wants to control but Nowak is keeping busy.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

Berge looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Berge is refusing to be controlled, as Nowak sits in half guard.

Berge is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Nowak pulls his head out easily.
Berge moves into full guard.

Berge keeping moving, preventing Nowak from controlling successfully.
Nowak tries to stand but Berge is controlling from the bottom.
Nowak trying to control but Berge is working from the bottom.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Berge gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Berge keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Nowak's efforts to push away.
Berge jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Nowak walks away with a smile on his face. Berge gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Nowak jumps guard.

Berge looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Berge tries to free his leg and advance position but Nowak is retaining full guard.
Berge slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Berge is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Nowak knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Berge working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Berge is trying to get an arm triangle but Nowak is defending well.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Berge's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Nowak moves into the clinch successfully.
Berge jumps guard but Nowak stands there with Berge around his waist. Berge gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Nowak has a couple of punches blocked by Berge.
Nowak wants to get back to striking at distance but Berge won't allow it.
Berge definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Berge tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Nowak smiles and moves away.

Berge gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Berge jumps guard but Nowak turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Tobias Berge. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Berge manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.

Berge is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Nowak is aware though and is defending well.
Tobias Berge overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Berge wants to control the position but Nowak says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.

Berge is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Nowak pulls his head out easily.

Berge tries to regain full guard. Instead though, Nowak has advanced to mount. Uh oh.
Berge is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Nowak can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Berge is looking to escape.
Berge keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Berge tries to hold on but Nowak postures up.
Berge is looking to improve his position but Nowak isn't that keen on the idea.

Nowak has hold of Berge's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Berge manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

Berge is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Nowak content to stall in guard here.

Berge looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Nowak passes into side control.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Lech Nowak showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


Berge clinches up with Nowak and pushes him back against the cage.

Tobias Berge seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Nowak goes for a body shot but it's blocked.

Nowak ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Nowak no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Berge postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Nowak is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Berge, into his guard.


Berge looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Nowak throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.

Berge working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Nowak doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oh but Berge is tightening it up a little... Nowak has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Nowak reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Nowak taps out! Nice BJJ there by Berge!
