PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Juju Chavez (ranked 3589 p4p, 2838 weight class) and Frankie DeLuna (ranked 237 p4p, 183 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Juju Chavez has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Juju Chavez seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Juju Chavez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 4 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Frankie DeLuna!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Jack Bonds and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
DeLuna tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Chavez is able to avoid easily.
DeLuna doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Chavez is on the wrong end of a nice combination from DeLuna.
DeLuna lands a head shot.
Chavez tries to score a power double leg takedown but DeLuna sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Chavez somewhat.
DeLuna has done a lot of speed work in the buildup to this fight.
Chavez lands a jab to DeLuna's midsection.

Chavez gets tackled into the cage by DeLuna. DeLuna maintains the clinch.
Chavez has DeLuna pressed against the cage, preventing DeLuna from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
DeLuna tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Chavez smiles and moves away.
DeLuna missing with a left hand there. Chavez was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
As DeLuna tries to get set, Chavez tries to push him back and clinch up but DeLuna manages to avoid the attempt.
Chavez misses the shot to the body.
Chavez on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
DeLuna is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

and Chavez counters with a nice body shot.
DeLuna lands a two punch combo.
The fight stays on the outside here - DeLuna looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Chavez tries to counter with a takedown but DeLuna is quick to defend against it.

DeLuna fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Chavez has been working on his boxing with his coaches at Reach Around in the buildup to the fight.
A punch combination from DeLuna misses.
Chavez connects with a solid leg kick.

Chavez gets the takedown into side control.

Chavez has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Chavez connects with a body shot that sends DeLuna's belly button to the back.

Chavez cracks DeLuna with a nice body shot.
Chavez creates a bit of space for himself and sneaks an elbow through DeLuna's defenses.
Chavez lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of DeLuna backwards.
DeLuna misses with a hook from the clinch.
Chavez lands a damaging elbow.
DeLuna takes an elbow to the forehead.
Chavez keeps the fight in the clinch, despite DeLuna's efforts to push away.
DeLuna tries to break the clinch but Chavez is controlling the position.

Chavez throws a right and a left that both miss.
DeLuna tries to counter by closing the distance.
DeLuna scores with a jab.

Chavez on the wrong end of a nice hook.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Chavez scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.
Chavez tries to bum rush DeLuna with a series of wild strikes but DeLuna uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Frankie DeLuna seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
DeLuna goes for a double leg but Chavez avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Chavez continues to drive forward.

Chavez creates a bit of distance and throws an elbow that only just misses.
Chavez tried to land a shot to the body but connects with DeLuna's elbow.
Chavez tries a knee to the head but DeLuna blocks it.
Chavez gets an overhook and lands an elbow to the side of the head.
DeLuna wants to get back to striking at distance but Chavez won't allow it.
Chavez has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. DeLuna is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Chavez comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush.
DeLuna wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
DeLuna is trying to force a seperation but Chavez has the dominant position.
Chavez lands a right hand that snaps the head of DeLuna backwards.
The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.
DeLuna wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Juju Chavez dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

DeLuna shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Chavez but Chavez pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Chavez appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
Chavez gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
DeLuna has a couple of punches blocked by Chavez.
DeLuna takes an elbow to the forehead.

It looks like Frankie DeLuna has been cut.
A short right hand to the side of the head by Chavez.
DeLuna has had enough of the clinch but Chavez keeps him there for the moment.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Chavez is stalling here.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Chavez has dropped down and is working for a takedown. DeLuna is trying to keep an underhook but Chavez manages to get the takedown into half guard.
DeLuna pushes Chavez off looking to stand but Chavez dives back in and keeps control.
Chavez lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Chavez drops an elbow to the side of DeLuna's head.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Chavez looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Chavez works his way into full mount!

DeLuna is trying to stand up.

Chavez is going oldschool here, as he tries to force DeLuna to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so DeLuna shrugs it off.
DeLuna is trying to stand but he's not in a good position to be doing that! Chavez has taken his back!
Chavez throwing strikes from the back - he gets a warning from the referee for striking the back of the head but all these shots are hurting DeLuna!
DeLuna wants to get back to his feet.
DeLuna is covering up but some of the strikes from Chavez are getting through and doing damage.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
DeLuna trying to get back to his feet but Chavez is in full control for now.

Chavez tightening his grip on DeLuna, looking for the choke.
Chavez has DeLuna flattened out and is raining down punches.

DeLuna is trying to stand back up.

Chavez has his arm under DeLuna's chin here. Game over son! Chavez squeezes tightly and DeLuna is forced to tap out!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:38 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Juju Chavez!
A less than humble Juju Chavez misjudged his post fight interview somewhat and came across a little too arrogant whilst trying to hype up his own abilities.
