PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jim Reynolds (ranked 24190 p4p, 4388 weight class) and Kilian Piper (ranked 648 p4p, 484 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Jim Reynolds has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Jim Reynolds seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jim Reynolds!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Kilian Piper!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Chris Downing and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Piper blocks a head kick by Reynolds.

Reynolds gets caught flat footed, as Piper shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Piper controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Piper looking to pass the guard.
Piper is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Reynolds knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Piper on the ground.
Piper trying to control the position from guard on top but Reynolds is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Reynolds is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Reynolds looking for a sweep. Not yet Reynolds, not yet.

Piper trying to control but Reynolds is working from the bottom.
Reynolds looking to hit a scissor sweep but Piper is one step ahead there.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Piper moves into the clinch.
Reynolds tries to land a knee to the head but Piper blocks with his arms.

Reynolds works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
Piper wants to sweep here but Reynolds controlling him for the moment.
Piper manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Reynolds manages to get himself to full guard.

Piper stops Reynolds from standing up.
Reynolds being controlled here, momentarily.
Piper stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Reynolds swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Reynolds wants to get back to his feet but Piper is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Reynolds working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Piper doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Piper manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Reynolds is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Piper not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Reynolds is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Piper defends well.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Reynolds throws a head kick that misses.
Reynolds misses with a head kick.
Reynolds is breathing heavily.

Piper shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Reynolds wants to stand back up but Piper manages to pass into side control.

Reynolds on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Reynolds tries to get out of the position.
Piper controls the position from side control.
Piper wants to lay and pray for a moment but Reynolds keeps working.
Piper cracks Reynolds with an elbow. That is naaassty.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Piper lands an elbow.
Piper scores with punches from side control.
Piper lands a decent elbow from side control.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Kilian Piper dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!

Reynolds throws a head kick but Piper moves out of range.
Piper misses with a takedown attempt - Reynolds sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Reynolds throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Piper fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Piper takes the fight into the clinch.
A shot in the inside from Reynolds.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Reynolds takes an elbow to the temple.
Piper blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Piper tries to pull guard but Reynolds won't allow it.
Jim Reynolds has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kilian Piper.

Piper manages to break the clinch.

Piper avoids the head kick by Reynolds.
Reynolds tries a head kick but it misses.
A head kick by Reynolds misses
and Piper counters with a body kick.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Piper moves into the clinch.
Piper scores with a hook to the body.
Piper stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.

Reynolds jumps guard.

Piper gets to his feet. Reynolds looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Piper shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Reynolds pinned against the cage. Reynolds gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Reynolds blocks a head kick by Piper.

Piper dives in and scores a takedown into Reynolds's guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Piper decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Reynolds, up you get!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Piper fails in his attempt to clinch.
Reynolds went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.
Kilian Piper is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Piper fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Reynolds throws a head kick but Piper moves out of range.

Reynolds rushes Piper and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Piper decides to pull guard.
Piper looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.

Reynolds avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Kilian Piper has got the better of the ground game so far.

Piper has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Reynolds should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Piper has tightened it up now! Reynolds should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:55 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Kilian Piper!
An out of breath Kilian Piper thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
