Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Tommy Whittaker (ranked 2998 p4p, 2308 weight class) and Run Away (ranked 349 p4p, 272 weight class). Run Away is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Tommy Whittaker!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Run Away!
The judges for this bout are Sosuke Kotani, Ren Mimura and Taro Takaoka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jab from Away.

It looks like Tommy Whittaker has been cut.
Whittaker moves out of range of the strikes.
Away throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Whittaker is looking for a counter combo.
Away misses with a hook
and Whittaker counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Away throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
As Away looks to move away, Whittaker throws a big counter combo but Away just gets out of the way.
Decent striking displayed by Away there.

Away pushes Whittaker up against the cage in a clinch.

Whittaker gets control of Away's arms and successfully pulls guard. Whittaker will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Both fighters have adopted an aggressive gameplan on the ground!
Away is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Away has been taking part in the yoga sessions down at EFC Gym. Presumably he's going to look for a slick submission... Or maybe he's looking to avoid one.

Whittaker is looking for a triangle but Away pushes his legs off easily.

Whittaker will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Whittaker working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Away doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Away manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Whittaker escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Away gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Away not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Away seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Whittaker is looking to improve his position.
Away has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Away keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Away takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Away looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Whittaker with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Away seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Away connects with a nice short shot to Whittaker's temple.

Away has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Whittaker defend it? Away steps over the head and cranks it - Whittaker is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Away!
