PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Andre Powell (ranked 3346 p4p, 3476 weight class) and Sergei MiG (ranked 404 p4p, 413 weight class). MiG has chosen Zombie as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Sergei MiG told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 8 - 0, fighting out of New York, Andre Powell!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Sergei MiG!
The judges for this bout are Eliza Hachem, Summer Carpenter and Ron Honeybunn.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
MiG decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Powell is trying to defend against the ground and pound but MiG scores with a couple of nice shots.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. MiG lands a nice short elbow.
Powell is looking to improve his position.
MiG thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Powell's head.
Powell gets full guard.
MiG throws a big elbow that misses.
Powell is actively looking for submissions from his back. He's worked himself a little space on the bottom and seems to be going for a triangle. No, he's switched into an armbar! That was slick! MiG rolls with it to try and escape but Powell cranks on the arm and MiG is forced to tap out! This one is aaaaaaaaall over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:37 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Andre Powell!
Our winner, Andre Powell, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
In defeat, Sergei MiG stepped up to the mic, saying 'I'm sorry fans, congrats to Bubba. I worked really hard to bring home the win, but i'll be back stronger and better, and hopefully me and Bubba can run it back for 5 rounds.'.
