PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Thor White (ranked 1400 p4p, 3168 weight class) and Marcus Hughes (ranked 213 p4p, 424 weight class). Marcus Hughes told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Thor White!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Marcus Hughes!
The judges for this bout are Ren Mimura, Shigeki Fujiwara and Yukihiro Yamamoto.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

White gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Hughes to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Hughes slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

White looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hughes forces his way into half guard.

White looking for submissions from an awkward position here.

That's one minute gone in the round.
White is looking for a sweep. Hughes is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
White's coaches at BLK Elite MMA Gym have been working on his defensive grappling in preparation for this fight so let's see if he can get out of this tricky position.

White is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Hughes pulls his head out easily.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Hughes lands a nice short elbow.
White moves into full guard.
Hughes controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

White looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Hughes is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
White avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Hughes has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Hughes there as he acknowledges the shot.
White wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Hughes misses with a right hand
and White counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Hughes, as that shot connected.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
White moves out of range of the strikes.
Hughes misses with a lunging right hand
and White counters with a stiff right hand.
Hughes looks to throw the jab but White is out of range.
White throws a big counter combination but Hughes scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.
White throws a jab but it's blocked by Hughes.
Hughes uses good head movement to avoid the hook from White.
Hughes has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Hughes there as he acknowledges the shot.
White takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Hughes misses with an uppercut
and White counters with a nice uppercut.
White misses with a body punch
and White takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Thor White will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

White throws a jab but it's blocked by Hughes.
White ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Hughes moves away.
White slips a jab from Hughes.
Marcus Hughes seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Hughes jabs White right on the nose. White blinks but takes it well.
Thor White is winning the standup battle so far.
Hughes lands a jab to the head.
Hughes misses with a shot to the body
and White counters with a nice body shot.
Nice defenses there by White.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
White throws a left and a right that both miss
and Hughes counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
White cracks Hughes with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
Hughes throws an ugly left hook that misses
and White counters with a nice uppercut.

Hughes is rocked!

That's one minute gone in the round.
Hughes circles to his right, straight into a beautiful hook by White. Hughes falls face first into the canvas - great knockout victory for White!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:11 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Thor White!
