Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Gerard Gracie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Holden Rosenthal (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rosenthal has chosen Rick Derringer - I Am a Real American as his entrance music. This should be fireworks!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Gerard Gracie!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Holden Rosenthal!
The judges for this bout are Tatsuya Matsuyama, Shigeki Fujiwara and Yuuki Gou.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Rosenthal closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Gracie tries to buck Rosenthal off but Rosenthal is having none of it.
Gracie is working hard here to advance position.
Gracie is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

Rosenthal is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Gracie gets back to full guard.
Rosenthal pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Gracie is keeping the position for now.

Rosenthal avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Gracie is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Rosenthal has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Rosenthal looks to land a left hand but Gracie moved out of range nicely.
Gracie uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Rosenthal.

Gracie is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Rosenthal is surviving well by controlling Gracie's body position as best he can.

Gracie has hold of Rosenthal's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Rosenthal manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Rosenthal is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Rosenthal flailing away with punches but nothing is landing.

Gracie jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Rosenthal is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Rosenthal and Gracie has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
Rosenthal can't do much from the bottom here.

Gracie working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Gracie is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Rosenthal knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Gracie is breathing heavily.

Rosenthal wants to control but Gracie postures up.

Gracie tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Gracie has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Rosenthal makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Rosenthal.

Rosenthal had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Gracie is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Rosenthal Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Gracie's back instead.

Rosenthal patiently working for the choke. Which fighter will keep their nerve here?
Gracie tries to roll but Rosenthal sticks to his back.

Rosenthal doesn't have the hooks in and Gracie manages to turn into his guard.
Rosenthal pulls Gracie in close to prevent any damage.
Gracie trying to control but Rosenthal is working from the bottom.
Rosenthal not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Gracie wants to control from the top but Rosenthal keeps moving.
Rosenthal wants to sweep but no luck.
Gracie looking to pass the guard.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Rosenthal throws a shot from downtown. Gracie moves away and avoids it.

Rosenthal shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Gracie really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Holden Rosenthal dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Rosenthal tries to bum rush Gracie with a series of wild strikes but Gracie uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Rosenthal sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Gracie's guard.
Rosenthal is looking to take a break and control but Gracie is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
The fighters are battling for position here. Gracie manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Rosenthal slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Gracie has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Rosenthal is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Gracie.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Gracie is not content to let Rosenthal control the position.
Gracie is looking to regain half guard here but Rosenthal keeps moving and retains side control.
Gracie takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.
Rosenthal cracks Gracie with a big right hand but Gracie just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Rosenthal looks up at the clock and then as Gracie takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Rosenthal smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Gracie sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Rosenthal takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Rosenthal passes the guard and advances to mount!

Rosenthal can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Gracie is looking to escape.

Rosenthal looking for a guillotine from mount but Gracie is having none of it.
Gracie tries to reverse the position but Rosenthal maintains control.

Rosenthal is working close to his opponent, looking to work a submission by the looks of things. Oh, he's managed to get a guillotine from mount as his opponent reached up! That looks tiiiiight! Will he tap? YES, he's tapped! Impressive submission by Rosenthal!
