PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Musa Rubi (ranked 4307 p4p, 4431 weight class) and Tim Orsetti (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rubi's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Can’t be stopped . We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Musa Rubi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Tim Orsetti!
The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Alec Ball and Yves DeLean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Orsetti misses with a two punch combination.

Rubi feints and as Orsetti raises his hands in defense, Rubi changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Rubi stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Orsetti swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Rubi cracks Orsetti with a solid left hand.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Rubi throws a strike but Orsetti rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Rubi holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.
Rubi tries to roll over but Orsetti keeps him under control.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Rubi takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Orsetti connects with a nice looking jab.

Rubi fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Orsetti sprawls well initially but Rubi persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Rubi is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Orsetti is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Rubi knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Orsetti on the ground.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Rubi is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Orsetti wants to get back to full guard.

Orsetti has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Rubi is working away from the top position though.

That was a close round but I would say that Musa Rubi will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Orsetti lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Rubi shoots in and drives through. Orsetti sprawls well.

Orsetti has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Rubi can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Orsetti is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Rubi defends well.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Orsetti is trying desperately to improve position.
Orsetti wants to hold on but Rubi pushes him away.
BOOM! Rubi connects with a massive shot to the dome!

Rubi takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!

Orsetti scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.
Orsetti lands a nice hook to Rubi's body. Rubi takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Musa Rubi is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Rubi decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Rubi fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Rubi is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Orsetti can do to turn this around?

Rubi with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.

Orsetti tries to lock up and control but Rubi gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Orsetti might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Rubi haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Rubi lands a big shot there that rocks Orsetti but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Rubi has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Orsetti's face.
Orsetti tries to reverse the position but Rubi maintains control.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Rubi seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Orsetti for as long as he can get away with.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Rubi, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Musa Rubi decided to hype himself up post fight. It was going well but he went on about it a bit too long and the crowd turned on him a little.
