Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mark Borrego (ranked 3708 p4p, 4870 weight class) and Ahjo Kuomanen (ranked 125 p4p, 149 weight class). Ahjo Kuomanen has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Mark Borrego!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Ahjo Kuomanen!
The judges for this bout are John Kavanagh, Dean Styles and Columbo Gatti.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Borrego tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Kuomanen was well out of range. Poor timing from Borrego.

Kuomanen shoots in and gets a takedown into Borrego's guard.
Kuomanen is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Borrego utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Borrego is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Kuomanen drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Kuomanen jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Borrego throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
Kuomanen is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Kuomanen drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Kuomanen jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Borrego pulls Kuomanen in close to his closed guard and prevents Kuomanen from doing any damage or advancing position.
Kuomanen loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Kuomanen works over Borrego with some ground and pound from guard.
Kuomanen controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Borrego knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Kuomanen on the ground.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Kuomanen sitting in guard here, content to control.
Borrego avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Borrego can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Kuomanen controls the pace.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Borrego throws an overhand right that lands on Kuomanen's shoulder, as Kuomanen tries to avoid the shot.
Kuomanen wants to counter the offense by Borrego and move into the clinch position.
Kuomanen moves out of range as Borrego strikes.
Kuomanen steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Borrego.
Mark Borrego seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
A telegraphed right hand from Borrego misses the target.
Borrego throws an off balance right hand
and Kuomanen makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Borrego throws a shot from downtown. Kuomanen moves away and avoids it.
Mark Borrego is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Kuomanen fails to land the takedown.

Kuomanen gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Kuomanen slowing the pace effectively.
Kuomanen drops down looking for an ankle pick but Borrego pulls his leg out and moves away.
Kuomanen looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Kuomanen throws a combination that misses
and Borrego cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Borrego definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Borrego with a jab.

It looks like Ahjo Kuomanen has been cut.
Borrego cracks Kuomanen with an open hand slap.
Borrego throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Borrego backing away here, and Kuomanen unleashes a leg kick that just misses.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Borrego drops Kuomanen with a hook right on the temple. He thinks about going to the ground but Kuomanen looks back up at him and smiles so Borrego waves him back to his feet - he obviously thinks he can knock him out after that shot landed.

Kuomanen is rocked!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Borrego fakes the body blow, causing Kuomanen to drop his hands! Left hook to the temple! Kuomanen goes stiff, and falls face first into the mat. Goodnight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:10 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Mark Borrego!
