PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Danny Rand (ranked 2417 p4p, 2352 weight class) and Pull Plugger (ranked 250 p4p, 246 weight class). Rand's entrance music is Wu Tang-Protect Ya Neck. A fine choice. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Pull Plugger was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 8 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Danny Rand!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 8 - 0, fighting out of London, Pull Plugger!
The judges for this bout are Topper Green, Steve Erwin and John Mangel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Rand closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Plugger did well to prevent Rand getting side control.
Rand is looking to take a break and control but Plugger is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Rand looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Plugger is controlling Rand's position as best he can from this difficult position.
Rand tries to stand and escape but Plugger is controlling the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Rand is nestled in close to Plugger, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Plugger is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.

Rand trying to control from half guard but Plugger is working away.
Rand knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Plugger on the ground.

Rand seems to be looking for submissions.
Rand lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Plugger trying to hold on to Rand's head to control him but Rand postures up.
Plugger gets back to full guard.

Rand drops back looking for a leg! Plugger is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Plugger manages to kick Rand off! Rand jumps back into Plugger's guard.
Plugger doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Plugger is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Rand looking to sit in guard and control but Plugger gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Plugger controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Plugger trying to control but Rand is working from the bottom.
Plugger is stalling in the full guard.
Rand can't keep his opponent in guard - Plugger advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Plugger connects with a nice short shot to Rand's temple.
Rand wants to get back to full guard.
Rand trying to hold on to Plugger's head to control him but Plugger postures up.
Plugger looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Rand is looking for a sweep. Plugger is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Plugger has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Plugger wants to control the pace but Rand is squirming around nicely.

Plugger is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Rand can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Plugger trying to control but Rand is having none of it.
Plugger working away from the top, dropping strikes.
Rand is looking to get to half guard.
Rand wants to hold on but Plugger pushes him away.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Plugger has hold of Rand's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Rand manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
The referee warns Rand that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.

Rand is rocked!
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Pull Plugger dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Plugger keeps the fight on the outside.
Rand throws a head kick that half lands.
Rand is looking to clinch but Plugger is avoiding it.
Plugger dodges the punch combination from Rand.

Rand drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Plugger is trying to improve his position.
Plugger is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Plugger looking for submissions off his back.
Plugger tries to roll over but Rand keeps him under control.

Plugger has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Rand is working away from the top position though.

Rand wants to work for an arm triangle but Plugger is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Rand in particular looking to stall.
Plugger tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Rand is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Plugger keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

Rand is pressing down on Plugger's thigh, looking to free his foot. Plugger is holding on for now.
Rand looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Plugger trying to control but Rand postures up.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Rand thows a huge punch but Plugger dodges it nicely.
Plugger is controlling Rand's trapped leg to prevent Rand from advancing to side control.
Rand is trying to control. Plugger wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Plugger felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
Plugger makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Plugger.

Plugger looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Rand connects with a couple of short punches.
Rand looking to pass the guard.
Plugger is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!

Rand throws a nice outside leg kick.
Plugger throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Rand seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.
Rand tries to clinch there but Plugger circles away.
Rand throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Plugger.
Plugger tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
Rand lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Rand.
Rand sizes up Plugger with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
Rand lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
Danny Rand is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Rand shoots in and bounces Plugger off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Rand wants to pass the guard but Plugger is keeping the position.
Both fighters have adopted an aggressive gameplan on the ground!
Plugger trying to keep a closed guard but Rand is proving a slippery customer.

Plugger has momentary wrist control but Rand slips an elbow through the middle.
Plugger throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.

Plugger looking for a triangle here. Rand is fighting it but it looks tight! Plugger pulls the arm across and this one won't last much longer! Nope, Rand is tapping out - this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:43 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Choke). Pull Plugger!
