PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Vitja Kostlov (ranked 3061 p4p, 2419 weight class) and Dwight Schrute (ranked 408 p4p, 332 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Vitja Kostlov!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Dwight Schrute!
The judges for this bout are Phil Schofield, Colin Fotheringham and William Gold.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Schrute circles away from the clinch attempt.
Kostlov throws a leg kick that is checked
and Schrute counters with a slapping leg kick.
Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Schrute!
Schrute scores with a slapping inside leg kick.
Kostlov fails with a takedown attempt.

Schrute forces Kostlov back against the cage and clinches.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Schrute lands with a light punch inside.
Kostlov is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Schrute to keep the fight standing.
Kostlov can't get the takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Vitja Kostlov. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Kostlov tries for a takedown. No joy.
Schrute dictating the pace here, as the fighters clinch against the cage.

Schrute lands a knee to the body.
Kostlov takes a knee right on the jaw!

It looks like Vitja Kostlov has been cut.
Schrute connects with a nasty looking knee right to Kostlov's face.
Kostlov fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Kostlov has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Knees to the body from Schrute.
Kostlov tries to break the clinch but Schrute is controlling the position.
Kostlov's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
Schrute scores with a shoulder strike.
Kostlov misses with an elbow strike.

Schrute manages to break the clinch.
Schrute scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Schrute doesn't manage to clinch there - Kostlov circles away.

Schrute has taken the fight to the clinch.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Schrute manages to break the clinch.
Kostlov has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.

Schrute dives in and scores a takedown into Kostlov's guard.
Kostlov wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Schrute manages to pass to side control.

Kostlov flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
Schrute is looking to advance position but Kostlov won't allow it.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Schrute throws a strike but Kostlov avoids it easily and moves to full guard.
Kostlov wants to stand up but Schrute is controlling him.
Schrute trying to control the position from guard on top but Kostlov is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Schrute postures up.
Kostlov pulls Schrute in close to prevent any damage.
Schrute controlling from the top position.
Schrute slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Kostlov sneaks back into half guard.
Schrute is thwarting Kostlov's attempts to control the position.
Schrute moves nicely into side control.
You can see the frustration on Kostlov's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Kostlov is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Dwight Schrute dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Vitja Kostlov's cut.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Schrute keeps the fight on the outside.

Kostlov closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Kostlov lands in his opponent's guard.
Kostlov stays in close to Schrute's body and controls the position.
Kostlov advances position into side control!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Schrute tries to get back to half guard but can't.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kostlov is looking to take a break and control but Schrute is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Kostlov staying calm.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Kostlov looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Schrute is avoiding damage well.
Schrute manages to work his way to half guard, despite Kostlov's best efforts.
Schrute has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Kostlov controlling the action here.
Kostlov tries to stand but can't do so whilst Schrute controls his leg.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Kostlov trying to mount his opponent but Schrute defends it.
Vitja Kostlov overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Kostlov is keen to just control but Schrute is a slippery customer.
Kostlov is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Schrute is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Kostlov wants to free his trapped foot but Schrute is holding on for dear life with his legs.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Kostlov throws a strike but Schrute avoids it easily and moves to full guard.

Schrute has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Kostlov should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Schrute has tightened it up now! Kostlov should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!
