Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Dean Hawthrone (ranked 2590 p4p, 1642 weight class) and Jans Schmidt (ranked 256 p4p, 168 weight class). There are an array of beautiful celebrities at ringside tonight! I wonder if any of them paid for their tickets.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the featherweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Dean Hawthrone!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jans Schmidt!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Chris Downing and Wesley Smith.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hawthrone takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Schmidt has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
Hawthrone tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Schmidt swivels and escapes.
Schmidt misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Hawthrone.
Schmidt pushes Hawthrone up against the cage in a clinch.
Hawthrone has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
Schmidt stops a takedown attempt from Hawthrone.
Hawthrone blocks a punch to the side of the head.
A short right hand to the side of the head by Schmidt.
Hawthrone wants to take the fight to the mat but Schmidt manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.

Hawthrone tries to score a body lock takedown but Schmidt shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Hawthrone is rocked!
Schmidt's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Oh Hawthrone is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Hawthrone gets tagged by a hook that puts him to sleep! Schmidt points and yells something to his unconcious foe before strutting off. Hawthrone wakes up just in time to hear Schmidt thank his coaches in the post fight interview.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:05 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Jans Schmidt!
Jans Schmidt is the new featherweight champion!
In his post fight interview, Jans Schmidt started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
