PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Paul Bunyan (ranked 2123 p4p, 20454 weight class) and Gustav Rinaldi (ranked 278 p4p, 659 weight class). I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Paul Bunyan !
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 25 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Gustav Rinaldi!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Blasius, Patrick Alders and Nard Betker.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Rinaldi fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Bunyan , pushing him back against the cage.
Bunyan has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Rinaldi after a bit of a struggle.
Rinaldi tries to break free but Bunyan pushes him back against the cage.
Bunyan lands an uppercut.
A nice right hand lands inside from Bunyan .
Bunyan jumps guard but Rinaldi stands there with Bunyan around his waist. Bunyan gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Bunyan stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.
Rinaldi wants to break free but Bunyan has control.

Bunyan pulls guard effortlessly.

Bunyan escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Rinaldi gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Rinaldi must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Bunyan can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Rinaldi controls the pace.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Bunyan is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Rinaldi is aware though and is defending well.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Rinaldi drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Rinaldi jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Rinaldi is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Bunyan doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Rinaldi.

That was a close round but I would say that Paul Bunyan will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Rinaldi throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Bunyan .
The fight stays on the outside here - Bunyan looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Bunyan wants to clinch.
Bunyan sets himself, and Rinaldi steps forward looking for the clinch! Bunyan avoids it this time.

Bunyan is trying to pull guard but Rinaldi turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.

Bunyan tightens his grip and picks Rinaldi up, before dumping him to the ground. Rinaldi manages to land in guard.

We've been hearing that Bunyan has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.
Paul Bunyan overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Bunyan seems to be working for a kimura but Rinaldi defends the submission attempt.
Bunyan throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

Bunyan is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Rinaldi is just riding it out for now. Bunyan eventually gives up the hold.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Bunyan tries to pass to full mount but Rinaldi defends it.

Bunyan looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Rinaldi regains full guard. Nicely done.
Rinaldi is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Rinaldi looking to hit a scissor sweep but Bunyan is one step ahead there.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Bunyan looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Rinaldi is fending him off so far but Bunyan persists. Nope, Rinaldi circles away and we're back to standing.

Rinaldi is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Rinaldi lands a left and a right that send Bunyan crashing to the mat, dazed. Rinaldi thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!

It looks like Paul Bunyan has been cut.
Donk. Rinaldi catches Bunyan right on the button with a cross.

Bunyan is rocked!
Bunyan tries for a takedown but Rinaldi circles away easily
and Rinaldi counters with a stiff right hand.
Oh Bunyan is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Bunyan looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Rinaldi is fending him off so far but Bunyan persists. Nope, Rinaldi circles away and we're back to standing.

Rinaldi moves into the clinch successfully.
Rinaldi tries to circle away but Bunyan has him pinned against the cage.

Rinaldi pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Rinaldi is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Bunyan tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Rinaldi defends well and Bunyan ends up having to push Rinaldi into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Paul Bunyan seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Oooooh!!! Rinaldi has knocked Bunyan down with a huge combo! Rinaldi steps away and waves a wobbly Bunyan back to his feet! This one might not go much longer!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Rinaldi closes the distance and lands a crisp combination that knocks Bunyan out cold! Bunyan corner are devastated, head in hands behind our commentary position. Poor guys.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:29 of round 3, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Gustav Rinaldi!
