PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Milez Velez (ranked 5742 p4p, 5198 weight class) and Mitchell Clancy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Velez comes into the arena with Praise The Lord (Da Shine) blaring out of the sound system. Both fighter's entrance songs getting the crowd jumping here.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Milez Velez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Mitchell Clancy!
The judges for this bout are Matti Vanhoillinen, Marco Blurström and Tarja Halkonen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Velez tries for a takedown but Clancy circles away easily
enabling Clancy to counter with a crisp jab.

Clancy clinches.

Clancy gets control of Velez's arms and successfully pulls guard. Clancy will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Clancy tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Clancy controlling the position.
Velez might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Velez has gone for a leg lock! Clancy slips out almost immediately though and dives into Velez's guard.


Clancy gets to his feet - Velez follows without any prompting.

Clancy gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Velez tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Clancy breaks the clinch.

Clancy has managed to clinch.
I was talking to Velez's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.
Velez is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.

Clancy's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Clancy forces Velez back against the cage and clinches.

Clancy has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Velez is trying to keep an underhook but Clancy manages to get the takedown into half guard.
Well, if Clancy is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Velez is trying to control but Clancy manages to pass to mount!

Velez is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Velez holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Clancy tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Velez is breathing heavily.
Clancy sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.

It looks like Clancy might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
Clancy won't let Velez get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.
Clancy throws a sloppy strike and Velez uses the opportunity to reverse the position! A bit of a scramble here and Velez has ended up in Clancy's guard.
Velez has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Clancy is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Clancy has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Velez can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Clancy bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Velez's guard.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Velez gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Clancy stands and steps away. Velez gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Milez Velez seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Clancy throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Clancy stands up and beckons Velez to join him on the feet.

Clancy drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Velez is looking to get back to his feet here but Clancy is keeping cool and he's managed to take Velez's back.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Velez is very frustrated here, being controlled quite effectively by Clancy.

Clancy trying to secure his dominant position for a moment - making sure Velez doesn't escape.
Velez could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Clancy is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Velez is defending well though. Clancy let's go of the attempt for now.
Clancy is looking cool and calm here, just waiting for a good opportunity to attack and finish the fight from this dominant position.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Clancy misses with an elbow to the head.
A bit of a pause in the action here. Clancy controlling the positon.
Velez is defending well here and trying to improve his position.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Clancy is controlling his opponent, waiting for an opportunity to finish.

Clancy is looking for the choke from the back position but Velez is controlling his hands well.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Mitchell Clancy showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!

Clancy lands a body shot.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Clancy.
Clancy sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Velez is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.

Clancy is trying to get an arm triangle but Velez is defending well.
Clancy in side control, just content to control the action for now.

Clancy wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Velez, who protects the arm well.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Clancy stands up and we're back to a striking position.

Clancy closes the distance and clinches.

Clancy has hold of one of Velez's legs. Velez is fighting the takedown attempt but Clancy gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.

Clancy gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Velez looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Clancy changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Velez tries to avoid it but Clancy manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Velez to the ground. Velez escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Clancy fails with a takedown attempt.
Velez appears to be looking for a big counter.

Clancy dives in and scores a takedown into Velez's guard.
Clancy is standing up over Velez. Velez looks to escape but Clancy dives into side control.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

Velez is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Velez defending against the ground and pound.
Clancy has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Clancy stands up and beckons Velez to his feet.
Clancy moves into range and connects with a jab.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Clancy.
Milez Velez has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mitchell Clancy.

Velez shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Clancy counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Velez is lucky that one didn't land flush.
Velez takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?

Clancy decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Clancy stands up out of the half guard.

Clancy looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Velez is looking to get back to is feet but Clancy passes into side control.
This has been an exciting period of action!
The ground and pound from Clancy seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
Clancy tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.
Milez Velez has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Mitchell Clancy is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Clancy decides to stand back up. Clancy steps back and let's Velez get back to his feet.

And that's the end of the fight!
Mitchell Clancy comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Clancy has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

During a confident post fight interview, Mitchell Clancy thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
Milez Velez spoke after the fight, saying 'This is all in God's plan. Gotta bounce back stronger and better as ever.'.
