PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Joesph Matens (ranked 3095 p4p, 4603 weight class) and Draylen Johnson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Joesph Matens!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Draylen Johnson!
The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Daniel Cesar and Felipe Paraventi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Matens throws a lazy head kick

and Johnson holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Matens is looking for a takedown.
Matens is pressed up against the cage. Johnson has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Matens down to the mat. Matens avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Johnson connects with an inside leg kick.

Johnson has Matens up against the cage in a clinch.
Matens goes for a takedown in the clinch but Johnson prevents it.
A frustrated look appears on Matens's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Matens has had enough of the clinch but Johnson keeps him there for the moment.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Matens wants to control from the top but Johnson keeps moving.

Matens is in all sorts of trouble here.

Johnson takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Matens holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Johnson tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.

Johnson throws some wild stikes that Matens manages to avoid easily.
Johnson throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Matens because Johnson loaded up on that one.
Matens tries to reverse the position but Johnson maintains control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Johnson has control of Matens's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Matens regains control of the situation pretty easily.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Matens has his takedown stuffed

and Johnson counters into the clinch. Nicely done.

Johnson dives in and grabs Matens's left leg, looking for a takedown. Matens pushes down on Johnson's head and hops out.

A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Johnson.
Matens lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
Matens shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Johnson as he jumps to the side.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Matens tries to close the distance and clinch up but Johnson swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Johnson appears to be waiting to throw a counter punch to the body.
Johnson lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Johnson shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Matens sprawls well. Matens wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Johnson gets slowly back to his feet.

Matens wants to clinch up but Johnson keeps it at a distance.

Johnson breaks the clinch.
Johnson shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Matens as he avoids it easily.
Matens swings for the body but Johnson moves out of range.
Matens shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Johnson as he jumps to the side.

Matens is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Johnson to keep the fight standing.

Johnson drags the fight down to the ground.
Johnson has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

Johnson kicks Matens off and gets to his feet.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Johnson moves into the clinch successfully.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Johnson jumps into guard, dragging Matens to the mat.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Draylen Johnson showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Matens's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. And we move into the final round!

Horrible takedown attempt by Johnson or perhaps it was just good defense by Matens, which made it look bad.

Johnson circles away from the clinch attempt.
Johnson tries to score a power double leg takedown but Matens sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Johnson somewhat.

We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Matens shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Johnson counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

Johnson dives in and scores a takedown into Matens's guard.

Matens is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Matens will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Johnson won't allow Matens to sweep him here.

Let's hope that Johnson has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Johnson stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Matens swivels though and keeps the full guard.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Johnson controls from within his opponent's guard.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Johnson closes the distance and clinches up with Matens, looking for a takedown. Johnson pushes Matens against the cage but Matens circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Johnson has managed to clinch.
Matens wants a takedown.

Johnson jumps into guard, dragging Matens to the mat.
Johnson has his hands on Matens's head, controlling the position.
Matens wants to stand and escape but instead Johnson has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Matens has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Johnson can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

And that's the end of the fight!
Draylen Johnson comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Johnson winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
