Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jake Peterson (ranked 24169 p4p, 5155 weight class) and Bert Newton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jake Peterson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Bert Newton!
The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, Darius Henderson and Eliza Hachem.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Peterson fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Newton, pushing him back against the cage.
Newton looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!

Peterson pulls Newton into guard.
Peterson is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Peterson is looking to stand up but Newton isn't so interested in that idea.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Peterson lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Peterson is pushing down on Newton's leg trying to pass to half guard. Newton is fighting to maintain full guard but Peterson has managed to sneak the leg through.

Peterson is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Newton is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Newton has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Peterson is working away from the top position though.
Peterson tries to stand and escape but Newton is controlling the position.

Peterson decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.

Newton gets caught napping as Peterson dives in and scores a takedown. Newton manages to retain guard.
Peterson has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Newton is proving hard to escape from.

Newton changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.

Peterson wants to stand but Newton is controlling the position.

Peterson controls Newton momentarily but Newton frees himself.
Peterson looking for a sweep. Not yet Peterson, not yet.
Newton should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Newton looking to sit in guard and control but Peterson gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Peterson passes Newton's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Peterson wants to stand but Newton has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
Peterson is looking to stand up but he'll have to free his leg first. Instead, Newton manages to get to full guard.
Peterson makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

Peterson tries to stand and escape but Newton is controlling the position.

Peterson is looking for a kimura but Newton is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Peterson to get the leverage.

Peterson closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Peterson will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Peterson jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Newton is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Newton and Peterson has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

Peterson has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Newton gets tackled into the cage by Peterson. Peterson maintains the clinch.

Peterson has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Newton regains guard immediately.

Peterson gets to his feet. Newton looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Peterson is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Newton can do to turn this around?

Peterson decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Newton is not content to let Peterson control the position.

We're hearing some news coming in from back stage. It's official - Newton has eaten all the pies!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! And we move into the final round!

Jake Peterson overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Peterson lands with an overhand left.

Peterson throws a right hand that Newton ducks under and follows up with a left that Newton also avoids with ease.

Newton lands a big shot there that rocks Peterson but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Peterson wants to hold on but Newton pushes him away.

Newton goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Peterson turns into him and now he's in Newton's guard.

Newton controls Peterson momentarily but Peterson frees himself.

Peterson got a little sloppy there for a moment and Newton has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Peterson has managed to get both his arms back between Newton's legs - danger averted.
Peterson stands up over Newton, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Peterson wants to stand but Newton is controlling his posture from full guard.

Well Peterson has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
