PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Bryan Gracie (ranked 2632 p4p, 2610 weight class) and Rob Rush (ranked 376 p4p, 372 weight class). Gracie comes to the cage accompanied by Limp Bizkit - Rollin'. Bryan Gracie has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Bryan Gracie!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Rob Rush!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Frank Antenori and Percy O'Donnell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rush scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.
Gracie avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Gracie drops down looking for a counter takedown but Rush sprawls and moves away.
Rush missing with a left hand there. Gracie was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Rush throws a jab when Gracie was well out of range.
Gracie tries to counter with a takedown but Rush is quick to defend against it.
Rush shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Gracie as he jumps to the side.
Gracie dips to his left and cracks Rush with an uppercut!
Rush lands with an overhand left.
Rush waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Gracie.
Gracie attempts a counter takedown but Rush avoids it well and moves away.
Sloppy strikes from Rush. Those never looked like landing.
Gracie changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Rush jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Rush slips a straight right by Gracie.
Horrible takedown attempt by Gracie or perhaps it was just good defense by Rush, which made it look bad.

Gracie tries to clinch but Rush moves out of range.
Rush looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.
Gracie is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Rush.
Good standup being displayed there by Rush as he connects with a hook.
Gracie shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Rush but Rush pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Rush scores with a crisp jab that stopped Gracie in his tracks.
Rush bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Gracie's head.
Rush jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Rush stuffs the takedown.

Gracie tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Gracie turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Gracie manages to end up in side control.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Rush is trying to control Gracie's posture but Gracie avoids it.
Rush is trying to avoid being dragged into an even worse position than he's already in but Gracie is staying active.

Gracie looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.

Gracie working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Rush tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Gracie wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Gracie tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Gracie has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Rush regains half guard.
Rush is trying to get back to full guard.

Rush is defending against the submission attempts here by Gracie.
Rush is looking to improve his position.
Rush tries to kick Gracie off but Gracie keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Rush is looking to control Gracie's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Rush avoid being mounted?

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Rush regains full guard. Nicely done.

Gracie is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Rush really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Gracie. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Gracie tries to free his leg and advance position but Rush is retaining full guard.
Rush wants to sweep but no luck.
Gracie wants to control from the top but Rush keeps moving.
Gracie controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Rush keeping moving, preventing Gracie from controlling successfully.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Rob Rush will probably get the nod.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!

Rush misses with a series of wild punches.
Rob Rush seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Rush lands a really nice looking cross but Gracie seems unphased.
Rush has a takedown stuffed.
Left hook, right uppercut from Rush.
Rush lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Gracie circles away quickly and effectively.
Gracie tries to counter with a takedown but Rush is quick to defend against it.

Gracie misses the jab.
Rush scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
Rush connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Gracie's hands.
Rush uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Gracie.
Rush might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.
Rush lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.

Gracie takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Rush throws a jab when Gracie was well out of range.
Gracie changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Gracie shoots for a double leg takedown but Rush sprawls well. He's pushed Gracie's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Gracie has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Rush finds it's way round the side to connect with Gracie's head.

Rush shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Gracie pinned against the cage. Gracie gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Rush lands a nice hook to Gracie's body. Gracie takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.

Gracie closes the distance and clinches.
Rush dodges an elbow strike from Gracie.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.

Gracie has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Rush clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Gracie wants to control but Rush is keeping busy.
Rush is trying to break free.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Gracie has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Rush has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!
Gracie wants to control but Rush is keeping busy.
Gracie seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission.
Rush is really stuck here.

Gracie working for the rear naked choke here. He's got one arm under but Rush is defending well. A couple of punches soften him up though and Gracie has tightened the hold! This one could be all over! It is! Rush taps out!

Bryan Gracie was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed.
