Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Noel Diaz (ranked 28 p4p, 424 weight class) and Liam Murphy (ranked 4 p4p, 59 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Diaz might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to The Stockton Slap Song. Liam Murphy acknowledges the crowd's support as he enters the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Noel Diaz!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Liam Murphy!
The judges for this bout are Bart Greer, Santiago Holmes and Sandra Marshall.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Murphy is looking to clinch but Diaz is avoiding it.
As Murphy tries to get set, Diaz tries to push him back and clinch up but Murphy manages to avoid the attempt.

Murphy closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Murphy jumps guard but Diaz stands there with Murphy around his waist. Murphy gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Murphy pulls guard.

Murphy has an active guard here but Diaz has managed to pass into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Diaz prevents Murphy from improving his position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Diaz in particular looking to stall.
Murphy moves into full guard.

Murphy working for submissions but it's allowed Diaz to get to half guard.
Diaz looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Murphy wants to control but Diaz is keeping busy.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Murphy tries to close the distance and clinch but Diaz swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Diaz working some nice short punches in the clinch.
A head punch on the inside from Murphy fails to land.
Murphy tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Diaz's elbow.
Murphy tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.

Diaz pulls Murphy into guard.
Murphy wants to pass the guard but Diaz is keeping the position.
Murphy trying to control the position from guard on top but Diaz is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Diaz escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Murphy gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Murphy wants to control from the top but Diaz keeps moving.
Murphy tries to free his leg and advance position but Diaz is retaining full guard.

And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Noel Diaz dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Murphy gets tackled into the cage by Diaz. Diaz maintains the clinch.
Diaz lands a right hand that snaps the head of Murphy backwards.
Murphy tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Diaz ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Diaz no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Murphy drops back looking for a leg! Diaz is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Diaz manages to kick Murphy off! Murphy jumps back into Diaz's guard.

Diaz is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Murphy can do to turn this around?

Murphy stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Diaz swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Diaz has his feet on Murphy's thighs here. He's pushed Murphy off and worked for a very quick armbar from the bottom! He's flipped onto his stomach and he's cranking hard on the arm! Murphy screams in pain and taps out! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:41 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Noel Diaz!
Noel Diaz retains his lightweight title!
Noel Diaz decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
