PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jake Heimbach (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gordie Randal (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jake Heimbach!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Gordie Randal!
The judges for this bout are Jonathan Paton, Joseph Jones and Alyssa Summers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Randal tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Randal misses with a few strikes there.
Randal throws a nice outside leg kick.
Randal will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Heimbach circles away from the clinch attempt.
Randal doesn't manage to clinch there - Heimbach circles away.
Randal shoots in and drives through. Heimbach sprawls well.
Randal looks for the body kick but Heimbach saw that one coming.
Heimbach stuffs the takedown.
Jake Heimbach has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Gordie Randal.
Randal shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Heimbach steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Randal.
Randal throws a series of punches but Heimbach avoids them all with ease.

and Heimbach counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Randal's guard now.

Heimbach wants to control from the top but Randal keeps moving.

Randal had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Heimbach is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Randal Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Heimbach's back instead.
Randal looks gassed!

Randal is trying to stick to Heimbach's back but Heimbach is turning into Randal. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Randal's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Heimbach.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Heimbach trying to control but Randal is working from the bottom.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Heimbach moves into the clinch.
Heimbach can't break the clinch.
Randal prevents the takedown attempt.

Heimbach breaks the clinch.

Randal is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Heimbach.
Heimbach fails with a takedown attempt from distance.

Heimbach scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Randal looking for a sweep but Heimbach has passed into full mount! Oh no!
Heimbach is landing with some decent strikes but Randal is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

Heimbach clinches but Randal breaks the clinch

and Randal counters with a nice double leg into side control. Heimbach won't be happy with that.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Randal tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Randal has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Heimbach struggling a bit here.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.



Randal gets caught flat footed, as Heimbach shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Randal is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Heimbach wants to control from the top but Randal keeps moving.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Heimbach accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Heimbach stands up and waves to Randal to follow him.
Randal doesn't manage to clinch there - Heimbach circles away.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Randal stuffs the takedown.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Heimbach tries for a takedown. No joy.
Heimbach prevents the takedown attempt.
Randal tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Heimbach gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Randal.
Jake Heimbach has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Gordie Randal.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Heimbach manages to break the clinch.
Randal takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?
Heimbach fails to land the takedown.
Heimbach goes for a high kick. It partially lands.
Randal closes this distance looking for a takedown but Heimbach circles away.
Randal misses with a combination

and Heimbach moves into the clinch.

Heimbach drops down looking for an ankle pick but Randal pulls his leg out and moves away.
Randal throws a head kick that misses
and Heimbach counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Randal is lucky that one didn't land flush.
Randal shoots in but no luck this time.
Randal tries for a takedown but Heimbach circles away easily

and Heimbach moves into the clinch.
Randal prevents Heimbach from breaking the clinch.
Heimbach tries for a takedown but Randal manages to get underhooks.
Randal jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Heimbach walks away with a smile on his face. Randal gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Heimbach wants to lay and pray for a moment but Randal keeps working.
Randal tries to bench press Heimbach off him but Heimbach keeps the position.
Heimbach working away.
Heimbach trying to control the action but Randal is working from the bottom.
Randal tries to get back to half guard but can't.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jake Heimbach dominated that second round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!


Heimbach shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

and Randal counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Heimbach!

Jake Heimbach overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Heimbach wants to hold on but Randal pushes him away.

Randal goes for an armbar but Heimbach turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Heimbach.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Randal tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Heimbach postures up.
Randal throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
Randal has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Heimbach has passed into side control.
Randal wants to control but Heimbach postures up.
Heimbach trying to control the action but Randal is working from the bottom.
Randal tries to improve position but can't.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Randal tries to close the distance and clinch but Heimbach swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Randal throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Heimbach's waist but Heimbach gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Randal off to one side.
Heimbach circles away from the clinch attempt.
Heimbach tries to clinch there but Randal circles away.
No luck for Randal with that takedown attempt.
Randal throws a left and a right that both miss
and Heimbach counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

Randal misses with a leg kick
and Heimbach counters with a big head kick but Randal shrugs it off.
No luck for Heimbach with that takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jake Heimbach. That's going to take a lot out of him.

and Heimbach counters with a slapping leg kick.
Randal misses with a kick to the body
and Heimbach counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Randal is lucky that one didn't land flush.

and Heimbach counters with a body kick that brings a smile to the face of both fighters.
Randal will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

and Heimbach counters with a nice double leg into side control. Randal won't be happy with that.

Heimbach stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Randal tries for a takedown but Heimbach sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Heimbach closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Randal gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Randal passes Heimbach's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Randal throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Gordie Randal has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Heimbach wants to improve his position but Randal is controlling well.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Gordie Randal.
Well Heimbach has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
