This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the middleweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of New York, with a TWGC record of 6 wins and 2 losses; Eduardo Vieira! And in the blue corner, fighting out of London, with a TWGC record of 3 wins and 4 losses; Ruben Gracie!
The judges for this bout are Anthony Taglia, Steve Montenegro and Chad Campbell.


The official calls the fighters to the middle and the contest is under way.

Vieira shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Vieira showed some decent athleticism there.

Gracie is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Vieira defends well.
Vieira wants to control from the top but Gracie keeps moving.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Vieira stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Gracie swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Vieira tries to free his leg and advance position but Gracie is retaining full guard.
Vieira trying to control but Gracie is working from the bottom.
Vieira is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Gracie is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Vieira seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Gracie is trying to escape the mount.
Vieira is looking to work his way around to Gracie's back. He needs to be careful though, as he's in danger of losing this dominant position.
Vieira takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Vieira's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Gracie is squirming around, avoiding Vieira's attempts to control the action.

Gracie tries to lock up and control but Vieira gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Vieira is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Gracie has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Vieira wants to take Gracie's back here but Gracie is holding on to an arm, himself looking to escape.
Gracie can't escape the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Gracie gets back to half guard.

Gracie looking for a kimura from the bottom but Vieira passes into side control!

Gracie tries to buck Vieira off but Vieira is having none of it.

A lull in the action here as Vieira stalls from top position.

Vieira tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Vieira has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Gracie gets back to half guard.
Vieira is keen to just control but Gracie is a slippery customer.

Gracie wants to control but Vieira is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Vieira is looking to take a break and control but Gracie is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Gracie stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Vieira swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Gracie drops back, looking for a kneebar! Vieira looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Vieira looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Vieira!

Gracie is not content to let Vieira control the position.

Vieira wants to free his trapped foot but Gracie is holding on for dear life with his legs.

My spies in Rivers Edge Gym inform me that Gracie has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!
Vieira is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
