PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Floyd John (ranked 4726 p4p, 5304 weight class) and An Hogg (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Floyd John!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, An Hogg!
The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Matheus Silva and Mauricio Rocha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
John defending well as Hogg loads up on a big left hand.
Hogg looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
John has a takedown stuffed.
Hogg changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. John tries to avoid it but Hogg manages to keep hold of a leg and drag John to the ground. John escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Hogg.
John looks for a takedown but Hogg sprawls well.

John closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
A right hand to the body from John.

John escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
John takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
John shoots for a double leg takedown but Hogg sprawls well. He's pushed John's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Floyd John. That's going to take a lot out of him.

John clinches up against the cage.

Hogg stops a takedown attempt from John.
John keeps control of Hogg as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
John tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Hogg just stands there and leans against the cage.
Nice body punch from John.

John successfully pulls guard.
John might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

John lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.


John decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
John is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Hogg is looking for the big counter here.
John closes the distance and lands a one-two.
John shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Hogg sprawls well. Hogg wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. John gets slowly back to his feet.
Hogg wants to counter with a clinch but John pushes him away.

John pushes Hogg up against the cage in a clinch.

John gets control of Hogg's arms and successfully pulls guard. John will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

John is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Hogg is aware though and is defending well.
John looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
A kick lands to the mid section there for John.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

John looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
John shoots in but no luck this time.
Hogg shapes to counter with a head kick.
John fails with the takedown.
Hogg changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Floyd John. That's going to take a lot out of him.

John takes the fight into the clinch.
John has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Hogg avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Hogg is breathing heavily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Hogg gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, John regains guard.

John manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.

John gets control of Hogg's arms and successfully pulls guard. John will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

John wants to get back to his feet but Hogg is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Hogg postures up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hogg is looking to pass into half guard but John pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now John is in guard.

Hogg is trying to keep John in close.
John forces his way into half guard.
John trying to control from half guard but Hogg is working away.

John controlling the action here.
Floyd John overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
John moves into full mount! Hogg won't be happy about that!
Hogg blocking the ground and pound.
John looking to control but Hogg is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

John looking for a guillotine from mount but Hogg is having none of it.
John tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

John wants to finish this one by submission but Hogg is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from John.
Hogg wants to hold on but John pushes him away.
John can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Hogg is looking to escape.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
John thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!

John is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Hogg can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
John throwing strikes here but Hogg is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Floyd John dominated that second round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!

No luck for John with that takedown attempt.
Hogg keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
As John backs off Hogg throws a huge counter combo but John manages to avoid it all.
John lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
John misses with a jab, cross combination.
John ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Hogg moves away.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

John rushes Hogg and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

John drags the fight down to the ground.
John controls Hogg momentarily but Hogg frees himself.

John looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Hogg passes into side control.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Hogg is looking to take a break and control but John is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
John struggling a bit here.
Hogg has knee on belly momentarily but John bucks him off and regains half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
John is trying to stand up here but Hogg is controlling him well.
John is controlling Hogg's position as best he can from this difficult position.
John is trying to maintain the position but Hogg is very close to passing his half guard.
John wants to improve his position but Hogg is controlling well.
John wants to control but Hogg is keeping busy.

John manages to escape and get back to his feet!
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from John.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Floyd John. That's going to take a lot out of him.
John closes the distance and clinches up with Hogg, looking for a takedown. John pushes Hogg against the cage but Hogg circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
John tries to close the distance and clinch up but Hogg swats him away and circles back towards the center.

John in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
John is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Hogg can do to turn this around?
Hogg has a closed guard, preventing John from standing up.
Hogg looking to control.

John decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Hogg, up you get!
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
John lands a head kick. Hogg smiles back at him and beckons him forward.

John moves into the clinch successfully.
An Hogg has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Floyd John is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Hogg misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from John.

And that's the end of the fight!
Floyd John showed his dominance in that final round.
Well John has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
