PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Grand Panda (ranked 4801 p4p, 4527 weight class) and Anson Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 168 weight class). Jones has chosen The Big Show as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. The key to victory for Grand Panda has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Grand Panda!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Anson Jones!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Robert Twigg and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jones doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.

Jones closes the distance and clinches.
Jones avoiding damage.

Panda has picked Jones up - he's going for a ride! Panda dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
Jones is trying to stand.
Panda looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Jones is holding on to half guard well.
Panda is looking to advance position but Jones won't allow it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Jones is doing well to control the position and prevent Panda from advancing to side control.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Panda wants to control but Jones is keeping him busy.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Panda is looking for a kimura here.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Jones swats away the attempt to clinch by Panda.
Panda fails with an attempt to clinch.

Panda bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Panda decides to stand back up. Panda steps back and let's Jones get back to his feet.

Jones drives through and clinches with Panda against the cage.

Panda pulls Jones into guard.
Panda avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Jones with a nice head shot there.
Jones content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Panda escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Jones gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Panda trying to keep a closed guard but Jones is proving a slippery customer.

Jones drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Jones jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Panda is working an open guard so Jones takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Panda closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Panda lands in his opponent's guard.
Jones wants to get back to his feet but Panda passes into half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Panda throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Panda is trying to control the action in half guard but Jones is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Panda decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.

Panda closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Jones's guard.
Panda seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Panda throws a strike but Jones rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.


That's four minutes gone in the round.
Jones connects with a couple of short punches.

Panda has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Jones is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.

Jones breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Jones swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Panda counters with a three punch combo that has Jones backing up. Jones nods at Panda to acknowledge the strikes.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Jones drives through and clinches with Panda against the cage.

Jones's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Panda shoots in and gets a takedown into Jones's guard.
Panda won't allow Jones to get back to his feet.
Jones wants to sweep but no luck.
Panda is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Panda trying to control the position from guard on top but Jones is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Grand Panda will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Panda swung with a counter punch to the body but it didn't connect.

Panda gets the takedown into side control.
Jones wants to get back to his feet but Panda is dominant here and he's now got Jones's back!

Panda is looking for a rear naked choke here but Jones reverses the position brilliantly into Panda's guard!

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Jones decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Panda, up you get!

Jones pushes Panda up against the cage in a clinch.

Jones pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Jones closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Panda's guard.

Panda has his feet on Jones's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.
Jones swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Panda doesn't manage to clinch there - Jones circles away.
Jones avoids the head kick by Panda.

Jones pushes Panda up against the cage in a clinch.

Panda has hold of one of Jones's legs. Jones is fighting the takedown attempt but Panda gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.

Jones pushes Panda off and scrambles back to his feet.

Panda shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Jones moves into full guard.
Jones wants to stand up but Panda is controlling him.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Jones keeping moving, preventing Panda from controlling successfully.
Jones is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Panda fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Jones to the ground. Panda is now in Jones's guard.

Jones manages to escape and get back to his feet.

Jones takes the fight into the clinch.

Jones breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Panda closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Jones quickly recovers to half guard.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Anson Jones showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!

Grand Panda overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
