PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Fedor Klen (ranked 4754 p4p, 3111 weight class) and Roma Vlasi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Roma Vlasi!
The judges for this bout are Dmitry Maklakov, Viktor Lagutenko and Illya Tyunina.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A head kick misses from Vlasi.
Vlasi loads up on a big right hand but Klen slips the punch.

Klen throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Vlasi was covering up waiting for the punch and Klen finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Vlasi wants to sweep here but Klen controlling him for the moment.
Klen postures up.
Klen wants to control from the top but Vlasi keeps moving.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Klen has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Vlasi after a bit of a struggle.

Klen tries to pull guard but Vlasi forces him back to his feet, against the cage.

Vlasi shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Klen but Klen pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Vlasi throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Klen's waist but Klen gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Vlasi off to one side.
Vlasi tries to clinch but Klen moves out of range.
Klen throws a big counter combination but Vlasi scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.
Klen moves into range and lands a nice body kick.

Klen will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Vlasi takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
A combination from Vlasi does no damage.

Vlasi scores with a takedown into Klen's guard.
Klen is wriggling around but Vlasi manages to pass to half guard.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Klen is trying to get back to full guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Vlasi looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Roma Vlasi will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Vlasi misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Klen shoots in for a takedown and gets it.

Klen could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Vlasi leaves Klen with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Klen.
Klen circles away from the clinch attempt.
As Vlasi looks to move away, Klen throws a big counter combo but Vlasi just gets out of the way.

Vlasi shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Klen manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Klen wants to get back to his feet but Vlasi passes into half guard.

Vlasi works his way into side control.

Klen is letting Vlasi control him for a moment.
Vlasi lands a decent elbow from side control.

Vlasi tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Vlasi has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Roma Vlasi has got the better of the ground game so far.
Klen is not in a great position here, taking some shots.
Vlasi is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Vlasi wants to lay and pray for a moment but Klen keeps working.
Klen is looking for a sweep.

Klen seems a little lost for a moment, as Vlasi dominates the positioning.

Vlasi stands up and beckons Klen to his feet.
Klen shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Vlasi as he jumps to the side.

Vlasi gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Vlasi breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Roma Vlasi showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Klen changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Klen misses with a takedown attempt - Vlasi sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Vlasi lands a nice looking kick to the body. Klen takes a step back to recover.
