PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Haole Boy (ranked 6392 p4p, 6320 weight class) and Earl Wilson (ranked 662 p4p, 659 weight class). Wilson comes into a darkened arena with his song building. My wish kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Haole Boy!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Earl Wilson!
The judges for this bout are Dirk Anderson, Michael Johnstone and Santiago Holmes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Good exchange - Boy coming out on top.
Boy connects with a solid leg kick.
Boy thuds a left hand into Wilson's body.
Boy scores with a body shot.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Boy, as that shot connected.
Boy misses with a wild body shot.
Haole Boy seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Wilson fails with an attempt to clinch.

Boy shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Wilson napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Wilson felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
Wilson is looking for a sweep.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Boy wants to control but Wilson is keeping him busy.
Wilson can't do much from the bottom here.

Wilson throws Boy to one side and escapes!

Wilson closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Boy quickly recovers to half guard.
Boy tries to get to full guard but Wilson has control of the leg.

Boy looking for submissions off his back.
Wilson looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Boy is looking to control Wilson's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Boy avoid being mounted?
Boy on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Boy tries to get out of the position.
Boy tries to regain full guard. Instead though, Wilson has advanced to mount. Uh oh.
Wilson trying to control but Boy is having none of it.
Boy knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Wilson on the ground.

Boy sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Boy actively working from the bottom here.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Wilson connects with a nice short shot to Boy's temple.
Boy has improved his flexibility recently so we will have to see if he can use that to his advantage.
Boy gets back to full guard.
Wilson chips away with some ground and pound.

Wilson got a little sloppy there for a moment and Boy has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Wilson has managed to get both his arms back between Boy's legs - danger averted.

Wilson sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Boy's guard.

Wilson is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Boy defends it well.
Boy wants to control but Wilson passes into side.
Boy is looking to reverse the position.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Earl Wilson will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Wilson tries to clinch up.

Wilson darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Wilson with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.

Wilson winds up and cracks Boy with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Wilson working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Boy could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Wilson is keen to just control but Boy is a slippery customer.

Boy is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Wilson pulls his head out easily.

Well, if Wilson is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Boy is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Boy avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Wilson shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Boy is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Wilson defends well.

Boy is looking for a triangle here but Wilson uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Boy is looking for a sweep.
Boy prevents Wilson from improving position.
Boy looking for a sweep but Wilson has passed into full mount! Oh no!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Wilson controlling from mount.
Wilson trying to control but Boy is having none of it.
Boy is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Boy tries to get back to half guard but can't.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Earl Wilson showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

Boy stuns Wilson with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Boy's corner calls for a 1-2. Boy obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
The fight stays on the outside here - Wilson looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Boy just misses with a punch to the body.

Wilson is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Boy is looking for a triangle but Wilson pushes his legs off easily.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Boy is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Wilson wants to control from the top but Boy keeps moving.

Boy escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Wilson gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Wilson chips away with some ground and pound.
Wilson advances to half guard.
Boy might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Boy wants to improve his position but Wilson is controlling well.

Boy wants to control the action here but instead Wilson manages to pass to full mount!
Wilson tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Wilson prevents Boy from getting the reversal.
Boy is working hard here to advance position.

Wilson working for a submission but Boy is keeping him at bay.
Wilson takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Boy is trying to escape the mount.
Boy tries to hold on but Wilson pushes him away.
Boy keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Boy is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

And that's the end of the fight!
Earl Wilson comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Wilson winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
