PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Sergey Objedkov (ranked 1785 p4p, 2287 weight class) and Moganesh Jain (ranked 102 p4p, 142 weight class). Jain has chosen The Monkey King as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Moganesh Jain has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 16 - 15 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Sergey Objedkov!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 19 - 8 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Moganesh Jain!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Jack Bonds and Percy O'Donnell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Objedkov looks to land a combination but Jain avoids it well.
A little jabbing left from Jain on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
Jain circles away from the clinch attempt.
Nice shot lands for Objedkov.
Objedkov wants to clinch up but Jain keeps it at a distance.
Objedkov throws an off balance right hand

and Jain decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Objedkov's guard.

Objedkov escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Jain gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Jain is stalling in the full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Jain tries to free his leg and advance position but Objedkov is retaining full guard.

Jain wants to control from the top but Objedkov keeps moving.
Jain trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Objedkov has his foot on Jain's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Jain works his way back into a safe position though.

Jain stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Objedkov swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Objedkov lands an overhand right.
Jain swings for the body but Objedkov moves out of range.
Jain stuffs the takedown.
Objedkov dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Objedkov shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Jain counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Objedkov thinking.
Jain throws a lazy uppercut
and Objedkov makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Jain throws out a loose jab but Objedkov uses good head movement to avoid it.
Objedkov cracks Jain with an open hand slap.
Jain uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Objedkov.
Objedkov fails with an attempt to clinch.

Objedkov shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Objedkov was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Objedkov working the strikes but Jain uses the opportunity to regain half guard.
Jain manages to get to full guard.
Jain wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Jain tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Objedkov trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Jain not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Objedkov throws a strike but Jain rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Jain stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Objedkov swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Jain wants to control from the top but Objedkov keeps moving.
Objedkov bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Jain's guard.


Jain working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Objedkov doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Objedkov manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Objedkov is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Jain avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Jain swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Jain stuffs the takedown.
Jain looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.
Objedkov looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Objedkov avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Jain throws out a loose jab but Objedkov uses good head movement to avoid it.

Jain gets caught flat footed, as Objedkov shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Objedkov trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Objedkov is fighting to break Jain's control of his arms but Jain is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Objedkov postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.

Objedkov is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Jain can do to turn this around?

Objedkov's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Objedkov wants to control from the top but Jain keeps moving.
Jain has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Objedkov has passed into side control.
Objedkov creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Objedkov works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
Objedkov wants to control for a moment but Jain uses the opportunity to move back to half guard.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Objedkov connects with a nice short shot to Jain's temple.
Objedkov looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Jain with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Objedkov is stalling here. Jain is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Objedkov seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Jain has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.
Objedkov manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Objedkov slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Objedkov is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Objedkov is on top in guard.

Jain has momentary wrist control but Objedkov slips an elbow through the middle.

Jain has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Objedkov is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Jain.
Objedkov misses with an attempted head punch from side control.
Objedkov will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Objedkov lands a nice forearm strike.
Sergey Objedkov overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Objedkov thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Objedkov wants to lay and pray for a moment but Jain keeps working.

That's time! Objedkov's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. And we move into the final round!

Objedkov cracks Jain with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.

and Jain counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

Jain throws a hook to the side of Objedkov's head but Objedkov sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Jain is really struggling to land any decent head shots against his taller opponent.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

and Jain makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Jain swings widly with a right hand
and Objedkov connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Objedkov thuds his right hand into Jain's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
A cross from Objedkov lands.
Objedkov connects with a single shot there.
Objedkov shoots in looking for a takedown. Jain tries to sprawl out of it but Objedkov keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Jain manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Objedkov rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Jain moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Objedkov takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.

and Objedkov counters with a stiff right hand.
Sergey Objedkov is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Sergey Objedkov seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Objedkov doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Jain counters with a nice uppercut.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Sergey Objedkov. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Jain looks to throw the jab but Objedkov is out of range.
Objedkov throws a hook but Jain avoids it easily.
Objedkov lands with a cross.
Jain walks into a jab.
Moganesh Jain has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Objedkov throws a body punch but Jain moves out of range.

Objedkov ducks straight into an uppercut from Jain and tumbles to the canvas! It’s a flash knockdown though - Objedkov manages to regain guard straight away.

Objedkov is rocked!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Jain is fighting to break Objedkov's control of his arms but Objedkov is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Oh Objedkov is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Jain throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Objedkov works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Objedkov seems to have got his legs back now.
Jain sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Objedkov's guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Sergey Objedkov.
Well Objedkov has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
