PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Malik Jones (ranked 4752 p4p, 25054 weight class) and Sss Sss (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sss Sss told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Sss Sss!
The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Daniel Franklin and Frank Dennis.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Jones closes the distance and clinches.

Jones pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Sss blocks a head kick by Jones.
Sss doesn't fully commit to the body shot counter.

Jones shoots in and gets a takedown into Sss's guard.
Jones is standing up over Sss. Sss looks to escape but Jones dives into side control.

You can see the frustration on Sss's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Jones working the strikes but Sss uses the opportunity to regain half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sss is trying to stand.
Jones wants to stand up but Sss is controlling the position.
Jones perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Jones is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Sss defends it well.

Sss pushes Jones off and gets back to his feet.
Sss shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Jones defends it nicely.

No luck for Jones with that takedown attempt.
A countering left hand to the body from Sss misses.
Jones gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Sss counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Sss takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.

Jones moves into the clinch successfully.
Jones unloads a knee to the mid-section. Sss lets out a prehistoric sounding urrrrgh.

Jones tries to pull guard but Sss holds him up against the cage and eventually Jones drops back down to his feet.

Jones manages to break the clinch.
Jones fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Jones shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Sss as he jumps to the side.
And Sss tries to counter it with a takedown but Jones pushes his down on his head and steps out.

Jones clinches up with Sss and pushes him back against the cage.
Jones is trying to pull guard but Sss has him pressed against the cage.

Sss prevents the takedown attempt.
Jones changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Sss fights it off and pushes away nicely.

Jones gets a clinch.
Jones drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Jones escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
A solid leg kick lands there for Jones.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action.

Jones shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Jones prevents Sss from breaking the clinch.
Jones is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

Sss wants to get back to his feet.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Sss is pressing down on Jones's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

Sss has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Jones off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
Jones misses the body punch
and Sss counters with a nice body shot.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Jones appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
Sss is throwing a lot of body shots here, looking to wear down Jones rather than just go for the knockout.

Jones looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Sss is fending him off so far but Jones persists. Nope, Sss circles away and we're back to standing.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Sss! But no joy.

Jones instigates a clinch.
Sss gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Jones.

Sss pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Malik Jones seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Jones is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Sss looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.
Jones shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Sss as he jumps to the side.
Sss let fly with a counter punch to the body but it didn't land.
Sss Sss seems to be getting the better of the standup.

Jones shoots in looking for a takedown but Sss manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Jones's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Sss shoots for a double leg takedown but Jones sprawls well. He's pushed Sss's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Jones was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.
Jones shoots for a takedown but Sss saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Sss shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Jones is trying to defend but Sss finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Sss escapes and gets back to his feet.

Sss Sss showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Sss tries to score a power double leg takedown but Jones sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Sss somewhat.
Sss shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Jones as he jumps to the side.

Sss takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.

Jones clinches.
Jones jumps guard but Sss turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Sss tries to break the clinch but Jones is controlling the position.
Jones displaying some good clinch control by pressing Sss up against the cage.
Jones can't find room to land a body shot as Sss controls the action.

Jones tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Sss tries to break free but Jones pushes him back against the cage.

Jones manages to break the clinch.

Jones fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Sss, pushing him back against the cage.
Jones avoiding damage.

Jones decides to pull guard.
Jones will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Jones wants to stand and escape but Sss is having none of it.
Sss wants to get up but he can't break Jones's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Jones wants to improve his position but instead Sss has moved into half guard.
Sss takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Jones is looking to get back to is feet but Sss passes into side control.
Jones wants to get back to his feet.
Sss wants to stand but Jones has his arm trapped.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Jones holds on to Sss's head and controls the position momentarily.

And that's the end of the fight!
Malik Jones showed his dominance in that final round.
