PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Sirus Hughes (ranked 6711 p4p, 6453 weight class) and Bartlomiej Jan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hughes comes into the arena with Devil "Shinedown" blaring out of the sound system. Jan has chosen https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6WJFjXtHcy4 as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 6 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Sirus Hughes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 21 - 0, fighting out of London, Bartlomiej Jan!
The judges for this bout are James Glass, Phil Schofield and Colin Fotheringham.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Hughes darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Jan wants to control but Hughes is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Hughes is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Jan has managed to free his arm - good work.

Hughes is looking for a kimura but Jan is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Hughes to get the leverage.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Jan is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Jan desperately trying to maintain half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Jan is not content to let Hughes control the position.

Hughes is trying to work for a kimura but Jan is defending well.
Hughes will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Jan is looking to control Hughes's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Jan avoid being mounted?

Hughes is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Hughes definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Jan slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hughes tries to free his leg and advance position but Jan is retaining full guard.
Jan manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Hughes manages to get himself to full guard.

Hughes working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Jan doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Jan manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Hughes isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Jan stacks Hughes on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Jan!

Jan wants to take Hughes's back here but Hughes is holding on to an arm, himself looking to escape.
In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Jan working his ground and pound in the gym. So far it seems to be working well.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Jan fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!

Jan looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Jan wants to take a breather but Hughes manages to regain guard - a lesson learnt for Jan.

Hughes is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Jan is aware though and is defending well.
Jan keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Hughes's head.

Hughes escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Jan gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Jan passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Jan lands a few punches from side control.
Jan trying to control the action but Hughes is working from the bottom.
Jan has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Hughes wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!

Jan tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Hughes sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Jan is taking a breather. Hughes says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Jan lands a nice short elbow.

Jan looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Bartlomiej Jan showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Hughes's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!


Jan shoots in and gets a takedown into Hughes's guard.

Hughes manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.

Hughes turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Hughes is looking to take a break and control but Jan is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Jan tries to buck Hughes off but Hughes is having none of it.
You can see the frustration on Jan's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Hughes goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Jan rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Hughes's guard! Nice work there by Jan!

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Bartlomiej Jan is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Hughes is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Jan pulls his head out easily.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Sirus Hughes.
Well Jan has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
