PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Aiden Khan (ranked 6189 p4p, 4217 weight class) and Dorian Swathe (ranked 701 p4p, 538 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Aiden Khan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Dorian Swathe!
The judges for this bout are Paul Tew, James Ackerman and Donald Grub.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Swathe defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Khan.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Swathe.
Khan wants to control but Swathe postures up.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Swathe remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Swathe has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Khan!

That's one minute gone in the round.
Swathe sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Swathe fails to take his opponent's back.

Swathe with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.

Khan tries to reverse the position but Swathe maintains control.

Swathe goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Khan is on top in guard.
Swathe is pulling down on Khan's head to control his posture.

Khan content to stall in guard here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Khan has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Swathe looking for a guillotine here but Khan defends easily.
Khan slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Khan throws a series of punches but Swathe moves out of range.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Swathe closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Khan did well to prevent Swathe getting side control.
Swathe is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
Swathe wants to control but Khan is keeping him busy.

Swathe is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Khan is just riding it out for now. Swathe eventually gives up the hold.

Swathe is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Khan defends it well.

Swathe is trying to control. Khan wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Khan looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Swathe content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Swathe tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Swathe is stalling here. Khan is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Swathe seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Khan has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

Swathe is staying active underneath Khan, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

A telegraphed takedown attempt from Khan is defended easily by Swathe.
A low kick from Khan is predictable there

and Swathe decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Khan's guard.
Swathe wants to pass the guard but Khan is keeping the position.
Swathe trying to control the position from guard on top but Khan is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Khan utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Swathe looking to sit in guard and control but Khan gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Swathe holds on and takes a little breather.

Swathe controls Khan momentarily but Khan frees himself.

Khan stays in close to Swathe's body and controls the position.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Khan slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Swathe is looking for a sweep.
Swathe holds on to Khan's head and controls the position momentarily.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Swathe closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Khan to the mat! Khan manages to get full guard.

Khan is adopting a defensive guard.
Swathe pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Khan is keeping the position for now.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Khan seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Swathe trying to control but Khan is working from the bottom.

The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

I've got Swathe winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
