PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Test Three (ranked 5185 p4p, 4995 weight class) and Chip Saunders (ranked 129 p4p, 127 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Test Three!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Chip Saunders!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Chris Downing and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Three tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Saunders tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Three defends well and Saunders ends up having to push Three into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Saunders misses with a head kick.
Three attempts a counter takedown but Saunders avoids it well and moves away.

Three has managed to clinch.
Three missing with knees to the body.

Saunders turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
Three manages to get back to half guard.
Saunders looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Three with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Three tries to roll over but Saunders keeps him under control.
Saunders is looking to advance position but Three won't allow it.
Saunders stalling.

Three tries to kick Saunders off but Saunders keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Three wants to control but Saunders is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Three is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Saunders is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Three slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Saunders wants to control from the top but Three keeps moving.
Three could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Three wants to sweep here but Saunders controlling him for the moment.
Three throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Three keeping moving, preventing Saunders from controlling successfully.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Three doesn't manage to clinch there - Saunders circles away.
Saunders wants to counter with a clinch but Three pushes him away.

Three moves into range and clinches up with Saunders.
Three has Saunders pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Saunders manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Three goes for a takedown in the clinch but Saunders prevents it.
Three wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Saunders has him pressed against the cage.
Saunders tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Three smiles and moves away.
Saunders is trying hard to land a takedown here. Three sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Test Three has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Chip Saunders.

and Saunders counters with a three punch combo that has Three backing up. Three nods at Saunders to acknowledge the strikes.
Saunders shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Three defends it nicely.

Three moves into range and clinches up with Saunders.
Three gets underhooks to prevent Saunders's takedown attempt.
Three is pushing Saunders up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.

The crowd are getting pretty annoyed with Three for his constant stalling in the clinch and are voicing their displeasure.

Saunders jumps guard and drags Three to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Three missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Three wants to pass the guard but Saunders is keeping the position.
Saunders is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Three stands and steps away. Saunders gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Saunders will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Saunders has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Saunders is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Three defends well.

Three tries to free his leg and advance position but Saunders is retaining full guard.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.

Saunders throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Three's waist but Three gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Saunders off to one side.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Three throws a big counter combination but Saunders scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.
Test Three has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Chip Saunders.

Three swings for the body but Saunders moves out of range.

Test Three is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Three slips under a jab.
Saunders swats away the attempt to clinch by Three.
Saunders displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Three.

Saunders rushes Three and presses him up against the cage.
Saunders tries a knee to the head but he's missed.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Saunders jumps into guard, dragging Three to the mat.
Three trying to control but Saunders is working from the bottom.
Saunders wants to stand and escape but Three is having none of it.
Three works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Saunders is looking to escape.
Three is stalling here. Saunders is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Three seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Saunders has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

Three tries to reverse the position but Saunders maintains control.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Chip Saunders showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

Saunders misses with an uppercut. Three saw that one coming.
Three appears to be looking for a big counter.

Nice takedown defense from Three. No joy for Saunders on that attempt.
Saunders shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Three sprawls well. Three wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Saunders gets slowly back to his feet.

Saunders tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
Three connects with a good right hand that stumbles Saunders. Saunders circles away out of range and recomposes himself.

Saunders leaves Three with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Saunders lands a big head kick that sends Three tumbling to the mat! Saunders takes a step backwards and waves Three back to his feet - he wants the finish!

Three is rocked!

It looks like Test Three has been cut.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Saunders darts in and clinches Three up against the cage.

Saunders has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Three uses from the top position.
Saunders wants to stand but Three is controlling the position.
Saunders is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Saunders throws a series of punches but Three avoids them all with ease.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Three looks for a takedown but Saunders sprawls well.

Three clinches.
Three just leaning against Saunders, taking a breather.

Saunders drags the fight down to the ground.
Three is fighting to break Saunders's control of his arms but Saunders is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Chip Saunders has got the better of the ground game so far.
Saunders controls Three momentarily but Three frees himself.

And that's the end of the fight!
Chip Saunders comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Saunders has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
