PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jody Flaka (ranked 4435 p4p, 2761 weight class) and Gajah Mada (ranked 530 p4p, 356 weight class). Mada has chosen Fighter Mode as his entrance music. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jody Flaka!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Gajah Mada!
The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, Eliza Hachem and Topper Green.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Flaka shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Flaka was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Mada sneaks out the side door and pushes Flaka away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.
Flaka misses with a combination
and Mada counters with a stiff right hand.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Flaka enables Mada to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Flaka manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Flaka managing to control the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Mada missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Flaka looking for a sweep. Not yet Flaka, not yet.

Flaka has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Mada can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Flaka working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Mada doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Mada manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Mada avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Flaka keeping moving, preventing Mada from controlling successfully.

Flaka working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Mada doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Mada manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Flaka looking to hit a scissor sweep but Mada is one step ahead there.
Flaka wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Mada decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Flaka, up you get!
Both fighters circling a little - Mada finishes the exchange with a kick to the body.
Flaka is breathing heavily.
Mada scores to the head and body with a nice combination!

It looks like Jody Flaka has been cut.

Mada drives through with a takedown into guard.
Mada is standing up over Flaka. Flaka looks to escape but Mada dives into side control.

Flaka is trying to improve his position.
Mada in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
Mada in side control lands a decent elbow.
Mada wants to lay and pray for a moment but Flaka keeps working.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Flaka tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Mada wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Mada scores with punches from side control.
Mada trying to control the position but Flaka is working away.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Flaka manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
Mada wants to improve his position but Flaka is controlling well.
Mada is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Flaka's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Flaka's back!

Flaka trying to control the position but Mada manages to sink in the hooks.

Mada is looking for the choke from the back position but Flaka is controlling his hands well.
You can see the frustration on Flaka's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Flaka gets caught flat footed, as Mada shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Gajah Mada has got the better of the ground game so far.
Flaka working a defensive guard but Mada manages to pass into side control anyway.

Mada has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Mada throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Flaka tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Mada is in Flaka's guard.

Mada decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Flaka, up you get!
Mada has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Mada throws a mid kick that lands with a slap.

Mada shoots in and bounces Flaka off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Mada thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Mada engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Flaka wants to sweep here but Mada controlling him for the moment.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Flaka not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Mada trying to control the position from guard on top but Flaka is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Mada passes Flaka's left leg - he's now in half guard.

Mada wants to work for an arm triangle but Flaka is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Flaka trying to get back to full guard but Mada takes advantage of the position and moves to full mount!
Mada lands a heavy elbow.

Mada gets to his feet and calls his opponent to stand. Here come the fireworks!
Flaka tries to clinch but Mada is having none of it.
Flaka tries for a takedown but Mada sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Mada punishes Flaka's body with a nice straight punch.
Flaka takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
Mada goes for a high kick. It partially lands.
Jody Flaka is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Mada shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Flaka wants to stand back up but Mada manages to pass into side control.
Mada working the ground and pound from side control.

Flaka is not content to let Mada control the position.
Mada controlling the position.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Flaka trying to control but Mada flips him over like a cheap hooker and has his back!
Flaka tries to escape the position.
Mada wants to control but Flaka is keeping busy.
Flaka tries to break free.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Gajah Mada showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Flaka closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Mada throws Flaka to one side and escapes!

Flaka is trying to maintain the position but Mada is very close to passing his half guard.

Flaka controlling the leg, holding on to half guard.
Flaka pushes Mada off looking to stand but Mada dives back in and keeps control.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Mada lands a nice short elbow.

Flaka has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Mada is on him like a limpet, forcing Flaka back against the cage.
Mada has Flaka pressed against the cage.

Mada pulls Flaka into guard.
Flaka advances to half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Flaka tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Mada.
Mada makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Mada.
Flaka trying to control but Mada is working from the bottom.
Mada not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Mada is adopting a defensive guard.

Mada had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Flaka defends it easily.
Flaka advances position into side control!

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Flaka stands up.

Mada feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Mada gets to his feet - Flaka follows without any prompting.

Mada scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Flaka tries to buck Mada off but Mada is having none of it.

Mada is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Flaka has escaped the position, nice work there.
Flaka is not content to let Mada control the position.
Mada works to advance to full mount. Flaka defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.

And that's the end of the fight!
Gajah Mada comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Mada has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3 rounds of action, we go to the scorecards for a decision.
