PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Brandon Borello (ranked 5112 p4p, 5108 weight class) and Harry Soutar (ranked 579 p4p, 577 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Brandon Borello!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Harry Soutar!
The judges for this bout are Bart Greer, Winston Alpacca and Michael Johnstone.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Borello forces Soutar back against the cage and clinches.
Soutar jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Borello walks away with a smile on his face. Soutar gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Borello tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Soutar manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Borello takes the fight into the clinch.
Soutar goes for a takedown attempt but Borello pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Borello thows a leg kick but Soutar checks it

and Soutar counters by moving into the clinch.
Soutar is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Borello manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.

Soutar breaks from the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Borello instigates a clinch.

Soutar breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Borello shoots in but Soutar avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Soutar tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Borello fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Soutar avoids it really well and circles away.
Soutar fails with a takedown attempt.
Brandon Borello has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Harry Soutar.
Borello tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Soutar paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Horrible takedown attempt by Borello or perhaps it was just good defense by Soutar, which made it look bad.

Soutar throws a counter combo.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Borello stays in close to his opponent and throws a right hand to the body.

Soutar lands a takedown into guard.
Soutar is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Soutar throws a big elbow that misses.
Borello knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Soutar on the ground.
Soutar stands and throws Borello's legs to the side, diving into side control.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Borello is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Soutar's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.

Borello wants to get back to full guard.
Borello wants to control but Soutar is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Soutar slows the pace down in half guard.
Soutar is trying to control the action in half guard but Borello is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Borello is concentrating on defense, preventing Soutar from advancing position.
Soutar perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Soutar tries to stand but can't do so whilst Borello controls his leg.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Soutar prevents Borello from standing back up.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
Borello wants to clinch up but Soutar keeps it at a distance.
Borello keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Soutar fails with an attempt to clinch.
Soutar fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Borello went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Soutar closes this distance looking for a takedown but Borello circles away.
Borello takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Soutar throws a head kick but Borello moves out of range.

Borello avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Soutar slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Soutar trying to stand up but can't free himself from Borello's guard.
Borello might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Soutar pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Brandon Borello is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Soutar throws a head kick that misses.
Soutar tries to clinch up
and Borello counters with a one-two to the body.
Borello shoots for a double leg takedown but Soutar sprawls well. He's pushed Borello's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
No luck for Borello with that takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Brandon Borello. That's going to take a lot out of him.
A looping hook to the body misses from Borello. Soutar does a little dance to reset his feet.
And Soutar tries to counter it with a takedown but Borello pushes his down on his head and steps out.

Soutar has Borello pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Borello manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Soutar breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Soutar changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Borello looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Borello explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there!
Soutar is breathing heavily.
Borello misses with a low kick.
Soutar is clearly looking to counter with head kicks.

Borello forces Soutar back against the cage and clinches.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Soutar is trying to drag Borello to the mat but Borello just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Soutar tries to break free but Borello pushes him back against the cage.

Soutar managing to block the knees to the body from Borello.
Soutar tries to land knees in the clinch but Borello avoids the damage to the body.
Borello tries for a takedown but Soutar manages to get underhooks.
Soutar tries to pull guard but Borello won't allow it.
Borello is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Borello is trying to break the clinch but Soutar has him pressed against the cage.

Soutar has Borello pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Soutar pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Borello tumbling to the mat - Soutar dives into Borello's guard.
Borello wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Soutar manages to pass to side control.

And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. And we move into the final round!

Soutar dives in for a single leg takedown but Borello sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

Borello is working for takedown but Soutar is calmly controlling the position for now.
Soutar has Borello pressed against the cage, preventing Borello from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Soutar is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Borello gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Soutar tries to pull guard but Borello holds him up against the cage and eventually Soutar drops back down to his feet.

Borello will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Soutar up against the cage.

Soutar walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.

Borello lands a nice hook to Soutar's body. Soutar takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Soutar needs to keep his hands up - Borello had a free shot at his head there.
Borello pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Borello shoots in for a takedown but Soutar shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Borello throws the kick towards the body but Soutar avoids it.

Soutar stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Soutar wants it to stay on the feet.

Soutar gets the takedown into side control.
Borello is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Soutar is one step ahead and moves to full mount!

Soutar working for a submission here. He's tucked his head under his opponent's arm, looking for an arm triangle. He's hopped off into side control, looking to tighten the submission... is it going to work? He's given up a good position looking for it. Borello looks OK. Oh, I spoke too soon, he's out! That must have been tighter than I thought! Excellent work there by Soutar! Submission of the night perhaps?
