PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jordan McKenzie (ranked 2897 p4p, 24791 weight class) and Gajah Mada (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mada has chosen Fighter Mode as his entrance music. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jordan McKenzie!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Gajah Mada!
The judges for this bout are Topper Green, Winston Howard and Skip Squint.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McKenzie fails with a takedown attempt from distance.

McKenzie clinches up with Mada and pushes him back against the cage.

McKenzie gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Mada regains guard.

Mada uses the cage to get back to his feet.
McKenzie throws a head kick that looked like it stung.

Mada shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
McKenzie looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Mada tries to free his leg and advance position but McKenzie is retaining full guard.
McKenzie keeping moving, preventing Mada from controlling successfully.

Mada thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Mada might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control McKenzie haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.

Mada closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
McKenzie wants to control but Mada postures up.
McKenzie gets back to half guard.

Mada is looking to stall here but McKenzie recovers full guard.
Mada is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

McKenzie wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Mada manages to pass to side control.

Mada throws an elbow that misses. McKenzie uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Mada's guard. Nice move by McKenzie!

McKenzie bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Mada's guard.

McKenzie keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Mada's head.
McKenzie tries to stand but Mada is controlling from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Mada has his foot on McKenzie's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. McKenzie works his way back into a safe position though.
Mada wants to stand up but McKenzie is controlling him.
McKenzie works over Mada with some ground and pound from guard.
Mada wants to sweep but no luck.

Mada scrambles and gets back to his feet.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Gajah Mada will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Mada pushes McKenzie off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

Mada looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Mada thows a huge punch but McKenzie dodges it nicely.
McKenzie is trying to maintain the position but Mada is very close to passing his half guard.
Mada thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
McKenzie has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Mada is working away from the top position though.

Mada wants to control but McKenzie is keeping him busy.
Mada looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Mada fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. McKenzie sprawls well initially but Mada persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Mada stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.

Mada moves into the clinch successfully.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jordan McKenzie. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Mada manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.

Mada bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in McKenzie's guard.

Gajah Mada has got the better of the ground game so far.

Mada decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Mada closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. McKenzie quickly recovers to half guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Mada moves into full mount! McKenzie won't be happy about that!

Mada with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.

McKenzie is in all sorts of trouble here.

Mada has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

McKenzie is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Mada gets his way!

Gajah Mada showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! McKenzie's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. And we move into the final round!


Mada shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Mada showed some decent athleticism there.
McKenzie is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Mada content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mada is keen to just control but McKenzie is a slippery customer.

McKenzie wants to get back to full guard but Mada has mounted him!

Mada can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as McKenzie is looking to escape.

Mada jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… McKenzie is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by McKenzie and Mada has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

Mada works his foot free and advances to mount.
McKenzie is looking to get to half guard.
McKenzie manages to regain half guard. Good work.

McKenzie tries to get to full guard but Mada has control of the leg.

Jordan McKenzie has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Gajah Mada is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
McKenzie is looking for a sweep. Mada is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
