PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jakub Stolar (ranked 2905 p4p, 2906 weight class) and Gergo Almasi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jakub Stolar!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Gergo Almasi!
The judges for this bout are Roger Salmon, Micheangelo Fripello and Josh West.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Stolar swats away the attempt to clinch by Almasi.

Almasi has closed the distance and engaged Stolar in a clinch.
Almasi prevents the takedown attempt.
Almasi tries to land a knee to the head but Stolar blocks with his arms.

Almasi jumps guard.
Stolar trying to control but Almasi is working from the bottom.

Almasi throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Stolar escapes and throws Almasi's legs to the side, diving into side control!
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Almasi struggling a bit here.

Stolar trying to control the position but Almasi is working away.
Stolar working the head with strikes.
Almasi tries to improve position but can't.
Almasi is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Stolar's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.

Almasi misses with some strikes from the bottom.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Stolar not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Stolar is taking a breather. Almasi says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Almasi blocking the ground and pound attempt from Stolar.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Stolar missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Well, if Stolar is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Almasi trying to hold on to Stolar's head to control him but Stolar postures up.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Almasi closes the distance and clinches up with Stolar, looking for a takedown. Almasi pushes Stolar against the cage but Stolar circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Almasi wants to clinch.

Stolar gets tackled into the cage by Almasi. Almasi maintains the clinch.

Almasi tightens his grip and picks Stolar up, before dumping him to the ground. Stolar manages to land in guard.
Stolar is wriggling around but Almasi manages to pass to half guard.

Stolar is trying to control but can't.
Almasi tries to stand but his arm is trapped.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Stolar manages to get to full guard.
Almasi looks winded!
Stolar throwing strikes off his back to little effect.
Stolar controls Almasi momentarily but Almasi frees himself.
Almasi with a flurry of punches that miss.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Almasi passes Stolar's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Stolar is trying to maintain the position but Almasi is very close to passing his half guard.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Gergo Almasi will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Stolar shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Almasi but Almasi pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Stolar's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Stolar swats away the attempt to clinch by Almasi.

Stolar throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Almasi tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Stolar is in Almasi's guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Stolar wants to control from the top but Almasi keeps moving.

Stolar advances to half guard.
Almasi trying to control from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Still in half guard, Stolar seems content to control.

Stolar prevents Almasi from improving his position.
Almasi wants to get back to his feet.

Almasi has one foot on Stolar's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.

Almasi clinches with his opponent.

Stolar decides to pull guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Almasi trying to control the position from guard on top but Stolar is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Stolar wants to stand up but Almasi is controlling him.
Stolar keeping moving, preventing Almasi from controlling successfully.
Stolar is looking to stand up but Almasi isn't so interested in that idea.

Almasi slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Almasi has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Almasi tries to score a power double leg takedown but Stolar sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Almasi somewhat.

Stolar rushes Almasi and presses him up against the cage.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Almasi managing to block the knees to the body from Stolar.

Almasi pulls guard successfully.

Stolar stands up and waves to Almasi to follow him.
Stolar dives in for a single leg takedown but Almasi sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Almasi is looking for the big counter here.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jakub Stolar. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Almasi breaks from the clinch.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Stolar fails with a takedown attempt.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Gergo Almasi will probably get the nod - 10:9.

Almasi closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Almasi lands in his opponent's guard.
Stolar bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Almasi's guard.

Stolar gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Almasi looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Stolar fails to land the takedown.

Stolar moves into the clinch.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Almasi connects with a knee to the head.
Knees in the clinch landing for Almasi.

Almasi pulls guard successfully.
Stolar looking to pass the guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Stolar accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Almasi had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Stolar defends it easily.

Stolar looking to control the position here, rather than advance.

Stolar stands up and waves to Almasi to follow him.
Stolar shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Almasi sprawls well. Almasi wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Stolar gets slowly back to his feet.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Almasi shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Almasi showed some decent athleticism there.

Stolar has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Almasi is on him like a limpet, forcing Stolar back against the cage.

Stolar escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Stolar tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Almasi manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Stolar closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Almasi did well to prevent Stolar getting side control.

Jakub Stolar overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Stolar is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Stolar tries to pass the half guard into mount. Almasi knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Jakub Stolar.
I think Almasi has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
