PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Mr Glass (ranked 5031 p4p, 5572 weight class) and Ewan Striker (ranked 479 p4p, 529 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Mr Glass!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Ewan Striker!
The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Ron Honeybunn and Topper Green.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Striker gets caught napping as Glass dives in and scores a takedown. Striker manages to retain guard.
Glass controlling from the top position.
Striker keeping full guard, as Glass tries to pass.
Striker wants to sweep here but Glass controlling him for the moment.
Glass might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Glass trying to control but Striker is working from the bottom.
Striker wants to sweep here but Glass controlling him for the moment.

Glass pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Striker is keeping the position for now.
Glass trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Striker is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Striker gets a double leg takedown into Glass's guard.

Glass pushes Striker off and scrambles back to his feet.
Striker misses with a head kick.
Striker keeps the fight on the outside.
Striker fails with a takedown attempt.

Glass tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Glass shoots in looking for a takedown but Striker manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Glass's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Striker shoots in and bounces Glass off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Glass is trying to keep Striker in close.

Glass has control of Striker's left arm, preventing Striker from doing any damage.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Glass is on top in guard.

Glass trying to control but Striker is working from the bottom.

Striker is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.
Striker throws a knee to the head but misses.

Glass pulls guard effortlessly.
Striker postures up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Glass has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Striker can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Striker won't allow Glass to get back to his feet.
Striker trying to control but Glass is working from the bottom.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Glass is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Striker is controlling him.
Glass is pulling down on Striker's head. It's preventing any offense from Striker, at least for the moment.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Mr Glass will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action.

Striker throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Glass tries to close the distance and clinch up but Striker swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Striker tries to clinch up but Glass circles away and keeps his distance.
Glass shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Striker but Striker pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Glass misses with a head kick.
Glass throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Striker tries to keep at a distance but Glass has taken the fight into the clinch.
The referee calls for Striker to work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Glass tries for a takedown but Striker manages to get underhooks.
Glass has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Striker is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mr Glass. That's going to take a lot out of him.

That's one minute gone in the round.
A quick uppercut on the inside from Striker.
Glass keeps control of Striker as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
With the two fighters working up against the cage, Glass just misses with a elbow thrown towards Striker's brow.
Glass dodges an elbow strike from Striker.
Glass jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Striker walks away with a smile on his face. Glass gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Glass shoots and misses
and Striker counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Glass has his takedown stuffed
and Striker counters with a left and a right that stings Glass.

Striker has managed to clinch.

Glass tightens his grip and picks Striker up, before dumping him to the ground. Striker manages to land in guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Striker is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Striker wants to stand and escape but Glass is having none of it.
Glass is looking to stand up but Striker won't let him.
Glass is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
Glass fails with a takedown attempt.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Glass shoots in for a takedown but Striker shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Glass throws a solid leg kick but Striker takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Glass.

Striker clinches with his opponent.
Glass tries to pull guard but Striker won't allow it.
Glass wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Glass blocks an uppercut.
Glass has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Striker after a bit of a struggle.
Striker tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Glass just stands there and leans against the cage.

Glass breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Striker attempts a low kick but it misses it's target.
Glass attempts a counter takedown but Striker avoids it well and moves away.

Striker rushes Glass and presses him up against the cage.
Glass fails to pull the fight into his guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Glass has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Striker is trying to keep an underhook but Glass manages to get the takedown into half guard.

Striker makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!
This has been an exciting period of action!
Sloppy strikes from Striker. Those never looked like landing.

Striker closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Glass tries to strike from the bottom but misses.
Glass is working to avoid the ground and pound but Striker connects with a decent elbow.
Striker working away.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Ewan Striker showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


Glass drives through and clinches with Striker against the cage.
Glass jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Striker walks away with a smile on his face. Glass gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Striker shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Striker stops Glass from getting back to his feet.
Glass is trying to maintain the position but Striker is very close to passing his half guard.
Glass slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Glass looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.

Striker trying to control but Glass is working from the bottom.
Glass has his hands on Striker's head, controlling the position.
Striker won't allow Glass to sweep him here.

Mr Glass is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Glass has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Striker uses from the top position.

Glass is trying to keep Striker in close.
Striker slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Striker wants to control from the top but Glass keeps moving.
Striker won't allow Glass to get back to his feet.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters, thinking about a standup.

Striker is pushing down on Glass's leg trying to pass to half guard. Glass is fighting to maintain full guard but Striker has managed to sneak the leg through.

Glass wants to get back to his feet.
Striker is looking to take a break and control but Glass is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Glass fails to land with a series of punches.
Glass sets himself, and Striker steps forward looking for the clinch! Glass avoids it this time.
Glass dodges the punch combination from Striker.
Glass avoids the head kick by Striker.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Glass dives in and grabs Striker's left leg, looking for a takedown. Striker pushes down on Glass's head and hops out.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Striker lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Glass is defended easily by Striker.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mr Glass. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Glass fails with a takedown attempt from distance.

Striker closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Glass did well to prevent Striker getting side control.
Striker is trying to control the action in half guard but Glass is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Striker is taking a breather. Glass says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Glass wants to get back to his feet.

And that's the end of the fight!
Ewan Striker comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Striker has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
