PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Isla Dawn (ranked 4333 p4p, 4705 weight class) and Kebab Bal (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Isla Dawn!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Kebab Bal!
The judges for this bout are John Roberts, Joseph Jones and Anthony Taglia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bal tries to clinch but Dawn moves away
and Dawn counters with a big head kick but Bal shrugs it off.

Dawn has taken the fight to the clinch.
Dawn prevents a takedown attempt there.
A nice left hand lands by Bal.

Dawn gets control of Bal's arms and successfully pulls guard. Dawn will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Bal looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Dawn controlling the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Bal wants to stand and escape but instead Dawn has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Bal is on top in guard.

Bal got a little sloppy there for a moment and Dawn has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Bal has managed to get both his arms back between Dawn's legs - danger averted.
Bal with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Bal working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Bal is looking to stand up but Dawn won't let him.
Bal stops Dawn from standing up.
Dawn keeping moving, preventing Bal from controlling successfully.
Bal might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Dawn haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Bal throws a big right hand that misses.
Dawn controlling Bal's posture.
Bal throwing strikes but missing.
Bal loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Dawn utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Bal passes Dawn's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Dawn might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Bal prevents Dawn from improving his position.
Dawn knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Bal on the ground.

Dawn is staying active underneath Bal, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Bal stalling.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Dawn scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.

Bal forces Dawn back against the cage and clinches.
Bal tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Dawn just stands there and leans against the cage.

Dawn manages to pull guard.
Bal is pushing down on Dawn's leg trying to pass to half guard. Dawn is fighting to maintain full guard but Bal has managed to sneak the leg through.
Bal seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Dawn does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Bal stops Dawn from getting back to his feet.
Dawn wants to get back to full guard.
Dawn could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Bal seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Bal wants to stand up but Dawn has a hold of him and won't allow it.
Bal controlling the action here.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Dawn is trying to stand up here but Bal is controlling him well.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Isla Dawn will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Bal misses with a takedown attempt - Dawn sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Dawn throws a head kick that misses.
Bal fails with a takedown attempt.
Bal tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Bal shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Dawn as he jumps to the side.
Isla Dawn has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kebab Bal.
Dawn throws a right and a left that Bal avoids nicely.

Dawn turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
The fight stays on the outside here - Dawn looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Bal takes a push kick to the midsection and stumbles backwards.

Dawn shoots and misses

and Bal counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Bal.
Dawn is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Bal can do to turn this around?
Bal is trying to break the clinch but Dawn is controlling him.
Dawn has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Bal avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Bal has Dawn pressed against the cage.
Dawn tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Bal avoids it.

Dawn manages to pull guard.
Bal is looking to stand up but Dawn won't let him.
Bal lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Bal scoring with some ground and pound.
Dawn pulls Bal in close to his closed guard and prevents Bal from doing any damage or advancing position.

Dawn is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Bal postures up and lands a big shot to Dawn's brow.
Dawn is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Bal controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Bal pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Dawn is keeping the position for now.

Bal darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

Dawn has one foot on Bal's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
Bal tries to clinch but Dawn is having none of it.
Dawn is trying hard to land a takedown here. Bal sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Isla Dawn is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Bal throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Dawn fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Bal drives through with a takedown into Dawn's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

Dawn is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Dawn breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Dawn looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Bal is fending him off so far but Dawn persists. Nope, Bal circles away and we're back to standing.
Dawn dives in for a single leg takedown but Bal sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Bal controlling the action here for a moment.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Isla Dawn dominated that second round.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!

No luck for Bal with that takedown attempt.
Bal looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Dawn is fending him off so far but Bal persists. Nope, Dawn circles away and we're back to standing.
Bal keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Bal darts in looking for a takedown but Dawn gets double underhooks and turns Bal into the cage.
Isla Dawn has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kebab Bal.
Dawn swats away the attempt to clinch by Bal.

Dawn shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Dawn misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Dawn looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Bal is fending him off so far but Dawn persists. Nope, Bal circles away and we're back to standing.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Dawn misses with an uppercut.

Dawn gets caught flat footed, as Bal shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Bal stands up and waves to Dawn to follow him.
Dawn looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Bal is fending him off so far but Dawn persists. Nope, Bal circles away and we're back to standing.
Horrible takedown attempt by Bal or perhaps it was just good defense by Dawn, which made it look bad.

Bal closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Dawn quickly recovers to half guard.
Bal scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Bal has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Bal looking to control but Dawn is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

Dawn takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Bal lands a nice shot to the head.
Dawn sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
Bal trying to mount his opponent but Dawn defends it.
Bal prevents Dawn from improving his position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Bal seems to be working for a kimura but Dawn defends the submission attempt.
Bal has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Bal is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Dawn defends it well.
Bal stalling.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Dawn wants to improve his position but Bal is controlling well.
Dawn wants to control but Bal is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Dawn tries to roll over but Bal keeps him under control.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

And that's the end of the fight!
Kebab Bal comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Dawn has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
