PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Vladimir Zhanna (ranked 23868 p4p, 5817 weight class) and Martins Voranovskis (ranked 596 p4p, 549 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Vladimir Zhanna!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Martins Voranovskis!
The judges for this bout are Igor Prikhodko, Aleksandr Martynov and Fedor Mirinova.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Zhanna throws a head kick that half lands.
Zhanna throws a body shot but no joy.
Zhanna throws a combination that misses

and Voranovskis counters with a shoot takedown. Zhanna fights it but they end up in guard.
Voranovskis postures up.
Zhanna can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Voranovskis controls the pace.
Zhanna looking for a sweep. Not yet Zhanna, not yet.
Voranovskis controls from within his opponent's guard.
Zhanna knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Voranovskis on the ground.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Zhanna throws some sloppy strikes off his back.

Voranovskis gets to his feet - Zhanna follows without any prompting.

Voranovskis throws a big right hand that misses.
Voranovskis slips nicely into half guard, despite the strikes coming from Zhanna.
Voranovskis is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Zhanna is refusing to be controlled, as Voranovskis sits in half guard.
Voranovskis missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.

Zhanna wants to get back to full guard.
Zhanna looks like he's trying to stand up.
Zhanna wants to control but Voranovskis is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Zhanna has a hand on Voranovskis's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Voranovskis takes advantage of the position though and mounts him!

Voranovskis is standing up out of mount! Strange tactic there - he must really want this one on the feet!
Zhanna moves in looking to clinch but Voranovskis pushes him off.
Zhanna tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Voranovskis wants to counter the offense by Zhanna and move into the clinch position.

Zhanna closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Voranovskis manages to escape and get back to his feet!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Voranovskis tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.
Zhanna wants to control but Voranovskis is keeping him busy.

Zhanna has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Zhanna wants to control from the top but Voranovskis keeps moving.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Voranovskis pushes a forearm under Zhanna's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Zhanna is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!
