PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Norman Pearson (ranked 1296 p4p, 2939 weight class) and Galtero El Toro (ranked 57 p4p, 124 weight class). El Toro is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Ballad of Bodacious . Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 20 - 16 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Norman Pearson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 16 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Galtero El Toro!
The judges for this bout are Joseph Jones, Anthony Taglia and Russell Pearce.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
El Toro shoots in looking for a takedown but Pearson manages to keep the fight standing, pushing El Toro's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Pearson rushes El Toro and presses him up against the cage.
Pearson wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
El Toro jumps guard but Pearson stands there with El Toro around his waist. El Toro gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Pearson manages to break the clinch.

El Toro throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Pearson was covering up waiting for the punch and El Toro finishes the takedown easily into guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

El Toro drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Pearson manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now El Toro has Pearson in his guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
El Toro pulls Pearson in to control the position.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Pearson avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

El Toro is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

El Toro has his foot on Pearson's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Pearson works his way back into a safe position though.
Pearson wants to control from the top but El Toro keeps moving.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

El Toro is trying to keep Pearson in close.
Pearson definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
El Toro is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. El Toro connects with a nice short shot to Pearson's temple.

El Toro is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Galtero El Toro will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action.

Pearson moves in looking to clinch but El Toro pushes him off.
A swing and a miss from El Toro.
El Toro tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Pearson scores with a nice right hand.
Pearson stuffs the takedown attempt from El Toro. El Toro gets slowly back to his feet.
El Toro lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.

El Toro throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Pearson's waist but Pearson gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing El Toro off to one side.
Norman Pearson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Galtero El Toro.

Pearson lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as El Toro backs up against the cage.

It looks like Galtero El Toro has been cut.

El Toro gets the takedown into side control.

Pearson sneaks out the side door and pushes El Toro away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.
Norman Pearson is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
El Toro pulls out of a head kick attempt.
It looked like Pearson was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from El Toro.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
El Toro tries to clinch up but Pearson circles away and keeps his distance.
Pearson is looking for a counter combo.
El Toro fails in his attempt to clinch.
Pearson throws a big counter combination but El Toro scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.

El Toro moves into the clinch successfully.

Pearson pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
El Toro pulls out of a head kick attempt.
The fight stays on the outside here - Pearson looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
El Toro with a body punch. A glancing blow.

Pearson gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
El Toro jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Pearson walks away with a smile on his face. El Toro gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
El Toro shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Pearson cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

El Toro closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Pearson quickly recovers to half guard.
El Toro trying to control the action but Pearson is working from the bottom.
El Toro not landing any meaningful shots this time.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Norman Pearson will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Galtero El Toro's cut.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


El Toro shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Pearson's guard.

El Toro shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Pearson as he avoids it easily.

Pearson tries to close the distance and clinch but El Toro swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

El Toro is working for takedown but Pearson is calmly controlling the position for now.

Pearson breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

El Toro gets caught flat footed, as Pearson shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
El Toro wants to sweep but no luck.
Pearson trying to control but El Toro is working from the bottom.
Our spies down at at AREA 51 inform us that El Toro has really been working on his submissions in the buildup to this fight. Will it pay off?
El Toro has a closed guard, preventing Pearson from standing up.
Pearson stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. El Toro swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Pearson trying to control but El Toro is working from the bottom.
El Toro has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
El Toro is trying to keep Pearson in close.

El Toro looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

Norman Pearson showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Pearson has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
