PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Perro Salchicha (ranked 4362 p4p, 2998 weight class) and Conor McGregaw (ranked 514 p4p, 332 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A head kick by McGregaw misses
and Salchicha counters with a straight right hand.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from McGregaw.
McGregaw throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Salchicha.

It looks like Conor McGregaw has been cut.
Horrible takedown attempt by Salchicha or perhaps it was just good defense by McGregaw, which made it look bad.
McGregaw defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Salchicha.
Salchicha doesn't manage to clinch there - McGregaw circles away.
Salchicha throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around McGregaw's waist but McGregaw gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Salchicha off to one side.

Salchicha shoots in looking for a takedown but McGregaw manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Salchicha's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

McGregaw can't break the clinch.
McGregaw is trying to break the clinch but Salchicha has him pressed against the cage.
McGregaw wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Salchicha has McGregaw pressed against the cage, preventing McGregaw from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Salchicha creates a bit of space for himself and sneaks an elbow through McGregaw's defenses.

Salchicha has a takedown stuffed.

A momentary lapse in concentration from McGregaw enables Salchicha to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. McGregaw manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
McGregaw wants to stand up but Salchicha is controlling him.
Salchicha stands and throws McGregaw's legs to the side, diving into side control.
A lull in the action here.

McGregaw tries to get back to his feet but has found himself mounted instead. Damn, that's gotta suck.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Salchicha has closed the distance and engaged McGregaw in a clinch.
McGregaw is trying to push Salchicha away but Salchicha has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
McGregaw wants to break free but Salchicha has control.
Salchicha has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. McGregaw is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
McGregaw wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
McGregaw tries to circle away but Salchicha has him pinned against the cage.

Salchicha pulls guard.

McGregaw stands up from Salchicha's guard - McGregaw perhaps looking for a knockout.
McGregaw throws a lazy body kick

McGregaw lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

McGregaw rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Salchicha moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

McGregaw leaves Salchicha with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Salchicha was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

That kick from Salchicha tenderised McGregaw's leg. McGregaw is trying to keep his angry face on.

Salchicha moves forwards but McGregaw connects with a nice, crisp jab.

McGregaw bucks up and tries to throw Salchicha off but instead Salchicha has got his back!
McGregaw is trying to get back to his feet but Salchicha has full control of the position and if anything, McGregaw has just worked his way into a worse spot.

Salchicha sinks in the hooks and is looking for the choke. He's got it! McGregaw taps out!
