PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Fijian Zombie (ranked 4486 p4p, 4484 weight class) and Tony Key (ranked 543 p4p, 544 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Fijian Zombie!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Tony Key!
The judges for this bout are Steve Montenegro, Alyssa Summers and Dean Styles.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Zombie gets a clinch.
Key tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Zombie smiles and moves away.
Key pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Key misses with a series of wild punches.

Zombie gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Zombie has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Key regains guard immediately.
Zombie is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Key keeping full guard, as Zombie tries to pass.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Zombie decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Key, up you get!

Zombie drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Key is looking for a sweep.
Zombie creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
Zombie seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Key for as long as he can get away with.

Key tries to buck Zombie off but Zombie is having none of it.
Key is pushing Zombie's head away, looking to escape. Zombie manages to hold on to the position though.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Key is not in a great position here, taking some shots.
Key sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.

Key doesn't manage to clinch there - Zombie circles away.
Zombie feints and then cracks Key's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Key down.

Zombie shoots in for a takedown and gets it.

Key looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Zombie is controlling the pace.
Key wants to control but Zombie is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Key wants to get back to full guard.
Zombie winds up and cracks Key with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Zombie missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Zombie scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Zombie content to control rather than advance.
Zombie prevents Key from improving his position.

Key tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Zombie paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Zombie tries to counter by moving into the clinch but Key manages to circle out of the way.
Zombie is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Key can do to turn this around?
Zombie throws a head kick that Key semi-blocks.
Key takes a swing at Zombie's ribcage but misses.
Fijian Zombie is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Zombie shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Zombie wants to take a breather but Key is having none of it.

Key kicks off Zombie and gets to his feet.
Key misses with a takedown attempt - Zombie sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Key throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Key enables Zombie to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Key manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Key looking to control.
Zombie postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Fijian Zombie overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Key trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!
Key keeping full guard, as Zombie tries to pass.
Zombie is stalling in the full guard.
Zombie preventing the sweep.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters, thinking about a standup.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Key trying to keep a closed guard but Zombie is proving a slippery customer.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Key shoots and misses
and Key takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Zombie tries to close the distance and clinch but Key swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Key gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Zombie decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Key's guard.
Fijian Zombie has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Tony Key.

Key looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Key is breathing heavily.
Zombie engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Key keeping full guard, as Zombie tries to pass.
Zombie preventing the sweep.

Key wants to stand and escape but Zombie is having none of it.
Zombie showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
Key is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Zombie shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Zombie was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Key tries to bench press Zombie off him but Zombie keeps the position.
Key is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Zombie is controlling him well.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Key is looking for a sweep.
Zombie is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Key's shoulder. That is not cool.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
You can see the frustration on Key's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Fijian Zombie dominated that second round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

Key shoots for a takedown but Zombie saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Key gets caught napping as Zombie dives in and scores a takedown. Key manages to retain guard.
Key utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Zombie pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Key is keeping the position for now.
Key trying to strike off his back.
Key working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Zombie.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Zombie in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Key looking to control but Zombie passes into half guard.
Zombie uses his free foot to push down on Key's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Key.

BOOM! Zombie connects with a massive shot to the dome!

Zombie stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.
Key shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Zombie as he jumps to the side.
Key shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Zombie sprawls well. Zombie wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Key gets slowly back to his feet.
Fijian Zombie has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Tony Key.
Zombie throws a nice looking combination but Key bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Key unleashes a big counter combination but Zombie bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.

Key gets tackled into the cage by Zombie. Zombie maintains the clinch.

Zombie lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Zombie stalling.
Zombie scoring with strikes to the body and head.
Key is trying to maintain the position but Zombie is very close to passing his half guard.
Key tries to get to full guard but Zombie has control of the leg.
Key misses with some strikes from the bottom.

Well, if Zombie is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Zombie is looking for the mount but instead finds himself back in full guard.

Zombie stands up from guard. Let's bang!

Zombie darts in and clinches Key up against the cage.

Key is fighting off a takedown attempt but Zombie is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Key to the mat. Key regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
Zombie is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Zombie postures up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Zombie passes Key's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Key is looking to improve his position.
Zombie controlling the pace.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

And that's the end of the fight!
Fijian Zombie showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Zombie has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
