PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Yuuto Yoshida (ranked 3064 p4p, 3582 weight class) and Shen Kuei (ranked 410 p4p, 481 weight class). Yoshida comes to the cage accompanied by Blue Oyster Cult Godzilla . On his way into the cage it seems that Yuuto Yoshida has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Yuuto Yoshida seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 32 - 21 - 0, fighting out of London, Yuuto Yoshida!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Shen Kuei!
The judges for this bout are Saam Ante, Nard Betker and Wagner Zegers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Yoshida scores with a nice right hand.
Yoshida connects with an inside leg kick.
Yoshida fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Kuei manages to avoid it.
Yoshida throws a body shot but no joy.
Yoshida throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.
Kuei moves away from the strike by Yoshida.
Yoshida tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Kuei is able to avoid easily.
A looping hook to the body misses from Yoshida. Kuei does a little dance to reset his feet.
Kuei sizes up Yoshida with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Kuei has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
Kuei blocks a leg kick.
An inside leg kick from Yoshida misses.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Kuei.

Kuei thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Kuei is trying to get an arm triangle but Yoshida is defending well.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Yoshida prevents Kuei from moving into mount.

Kuei tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Kuei has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Kuei tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.

Kuei working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kuei wants to control but Yoshida is keeping him busy.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Yoshida manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!

Kuei pushes Yoshida off and gets back to his feet.
Kuei checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.
And Kuei tries to counter it with a takedown but Yoshida pushes his down on his head and steps out.
A jab from Kuei misses.
Yoshida pivots, looking for a leg kick but Kuei is out of range and Yoshida settles back down.
Kuei scores with a sloppy right hand. Yoshida should have avoided that one.
Yuuto Yoshida seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Yoshida lands a nice shot that snaps Kuei's head back.
Kuei fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Yoshida has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Kuei showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Yoshida.
Kuei jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Good standup being displayed there by Kuei as he connects with a hook.
Yuuto Yoshida is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Yoshida throws a chopping leg kick but Kuei manages to avoid taking any serious damage.
Yoshida fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Kuei manages to avoid it.
Yoshida keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Yoshida wants to clinch up but Kuei keeps it at a distance.
Kuei swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
Yoshida tries to clinch but Kuei is having none of it.
Yoshida misses with an uppercut. Kuei saw that one coming.
Yoshida steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Kuei.
Yoshida swings and misses with a shot to the body
and Kuei counters with a flying knee that drops Yoshida! Kuei dives in and finishes the fight with a flurry of strikes from the mount!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:35 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Shen Kuei!
In his post fight interview, Shen Kuei started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
