PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jimmy Nickels (ranked 1571 p4p, 1014 weight class) and Eddie Miller (ranked 184 p4p, 126 weight class). Miller has chosen Not Falling as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nickels paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.

It looks like Eddie Miller has been cut.
Jimmy Nickels seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Miller has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.

I was talking to Nickels's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Miller manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Nickels manages to get himself to full guard.

Nickels is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action.

Nickels takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Nickels throws a low kick but Miller moves out of range easily.

Nickels will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Nickels has taken the fight to the clinch.

Nickels is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Miller can do to turn this around?

You can see the frustration on Nickels's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Nickels stops Miller from passing to mount.
It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Nickels here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.

Miller goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Nickels rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Miller's guard! Nice work there by Nickels!

Nickels will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.

Nickels blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Nickels comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush.

Eddie Miller's cut is absolute horrible now. This looks like something out of a horror film with blood covering both fighters.
