PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Kahdi Mandinos (ranked 1371 p4p, 3904 weight class) and Andrey Nikonov (ranked 203 p4p, 501 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Kahdi Mandinos!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Andrey Nikonov!
The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, Ben Watson and Bruno Hogan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nikonov misses with a leg kick

and Mandinos counters with a nice double leg into side control. Nikonov won't be happy with that.
Mandinos trying to control the action but Nikonov is working from the bottom.
Nikonov wants to control but Mandinos postures up.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mandinos advances nicely into full mount.
Mandinos lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
Nikonov is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Mandinos lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Mandinos takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Nikonov avoids a series of strikes thrown by Mandinos.

Mandinos jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Nikonov is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Nikonov and Mandinos has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

Mandinos goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Nikonov rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Mandinos's guard! Nice work there by Nikonov!

Mandinos seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission.

Nikonov seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Nikonov loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Mandinos looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Nikonov trying to control the position from guard on top but Mandinos is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Nikonov drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Mandinos dives on top into guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Nikonov looking for a sweep. Not yet Nikonov, not yet.
Mandinos postures up.
Mandinos trying to control the position from guard on top but Nikonov is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Mandinos works over Nikonov with some ground and pound from guard.
Nikonov keeping moving, preventing Mandinos from controlling successfully.
Nikonov told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet.

Nikonov looking for a guillotine here but Mandinos defends easily.
Nikonov can't keep his opponent in guard - Mandinos advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Nikonov is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Mandinos missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Nikonov is staying active underneath Mandinos, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Mandinos seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Mandinos wants to free his trapped foot but Nikonov is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Mandinos trying to control from half guard but Nikonov is working away.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Kahdi Mandinos dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Nikonov buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Nikonov lands a glancing blow to the side of Mandinos's head.

Nikonov dives in and scores a takedown into Mandinos's guard.
Nikonov trying to control but Mandinos is working from the bottom.

Nikonov wants to control from the top but Mandinos keeps moving.
Nikonov must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Mandinos throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Nikonov throws a head kick but Mandinos moves out of range.

Nikonov feints and as Mandinos raises his hands in defense, Nikonov changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Mandinos looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Mandinos trying to keep a closed guard but Nikonov is proving a slippery customer.
Mandinos keeping moving, preventing Nikonov from controlling successfully.
Nikonov throws a big right hand that misses.

Nikonov passes Mandinos's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Mandinos moves into full guard.
Nikonov works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Nikonov not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Nikonov stalling away here and it's allowed Mandinos to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.
Nikonov pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Mandinos is keeping the position for now.

Mandinos has his foot on Nikonov's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Nikonov works his way back into a safe position though.

Nikonov wants to control from the top but Mandinos keeps moving.
Nikonov trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Nikonov is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Nikonov content to sit in guard, stalling... Great. Oh but he could get punished here because Mandinos has locked up a guillotine! Mandinos's face is contorted as he sqeezes tight on the submission attempt - will he finish? Nikonov is holding on here and Mandinos must be using up a lot of energy. Nikonov has gone limp! He's out! He's out cold! Mandinos gets to his feet, tossing aside his stricken foe. Arms raised, he milks the applause from the crowd. Great submission!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:47 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Kahdi Mandinos!
