PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Cody Abbott (ranked 4584 p4p, 5392 weight class) and Billy Rogers (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Percy O'Donnell, Timothy Bukovac and Don Winkell.

Abbott throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Rogers was covering up waiting for the punch and Abbott finishes the takedown easily into guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Rogers has his foot on Abbott 's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Abbott works his way back into a safe position though.

Abbott sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Rogers's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Abbott connects with a nice short shot to Rogers's temple.

Rogers has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Abbott is working away from the top position though.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Rogers wants to control but Abbott is keeping busy and won't allow it.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Abbott feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Rogers is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Abbott 's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Abbott accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Abbott bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Rogers seems a little lost for a moment, as Abbott dominates the positioning.
Rogers manages to work his way to half guard, despite Abbott 's best efforts.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Abbott drops his hands momentarily and Rogers takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Abbott shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Rogers sprawls well. Rogers wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Abbott gets slowly back to his feet.
Despite the aggression on Rogers's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Abbott shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Rogers manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Abbott , winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
