PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Walter Wiener (ranked 3512 p4p, 1568 weight class) and Batang Kock (ranked 356 p4p, 181 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Walter Wiener!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Batang Kock!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Tiny Johnson and Stewart Dunkirk.

Kock throws a jab but it's blocked by Wiener.
Kock avoids the head kick by Wiener.
Kock appears to be waiting to throw a counter punch to the body.
Wiener swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Wiener misses with a body kick.
Kock misses with a few strikes there.

Kock lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.

Kock closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kock is looking to take a break and control but Wiener is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Wiener parries the strikes from Kock easily there. Kock is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Wiener to escape.

Kock is chipping away with strikes.

Kock wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Wiener, who protects the arm well.
Wiener is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Kock is controlling him well.
Wiener is not content to let Kock control the position.
Kock remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Wiener tries to escape but Kock is in control.
Kock has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Kock working his ground and pound in the gym. So far it seems to be working well.
Kock works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.

The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Wiener will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

and Kock counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
The fighters circle momentarily. Kock darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Wiener throws a sloppy head kick and Kock moves out of range easily.

and Kock makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.

Wiener wants to get back to his feet.
Wiener is not content to let Kock control the position.

Kock looks to land a strike but Wiener avoids it nicely and regains full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Kock prevents Wiener from getting back to his feet.
Kock wants to control from the top but Wiener keeps moving.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Kock tries to work over Wiener's front leg with a kick but Wiener checks it.

Wiener takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Batang Kock seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Kock lands a nice shot to the body.
Wiener uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Kock.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Kock fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Oh Wiener is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Kock pounces like a tiger and cracks Wiener with a vicious hook! Wiener is down but not out! Kock follows up with more strikes forcing the ref to jump in and stop it!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:57 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Batang Kock!
